Lemon signs, but Beck is back

We heard conflicting accounts on Saturday regarding whether Ravens quarterback John Beck has a broken collarbone.

One source said he did, one source said he didn’t.

Aaron Wilson of the Carroll County Times saw Beck handing in his hotel key at the Best Western (a double oxymoron) in Westminster, Maryland.  The sudden flirtation with Cleo Lemon (who worked out and passed a physical) suggested that, indeed, Beck was soon to be gone.

But Beck is back on the practice field today.

But Lemon has been signed, too, according to agent J.R. Rickert’s Twitter page.

So we don’t know what the hell is going on, especially since Wilson tells us that Drew Willy is still on the team, giving Baltimore a Grudenesque five quarterbacks under contract.

  1. What Ozzie is doing is building depth at QB. Since Flacco is the Future, no need for Troy Smith. This is Troy’s last year under contract. Troy Smith is a starter for some teams so why not get something for him instead of letting him walk?
What does Bmore need? WR. What does Denver need? QB.
Oz does not trade 1st or 2nd round picks. If he can package Smith plus a 4th rounder for Marshall, it gets done. I’m sure he prefers straight up then to add a draft pick.
Denver is desperate, then again so are the Viks.

  2. My guess is that Troy Smith goes nowhere this year. It is the last year of his contract. He will be like Matt Schaub. Some team will fall in love with him and offer up a 1 or a 2 for a guy that was a low 5 draft pick. Ozzie then pulls the trigger. Smith has been playing very very well in training camp. He is a motivated player with a large chip on his shoulder because so many teams passed on him. He’ll never beat out Flacco here, but Harbs and Cam like Beck as a backup and if we could get a Brandon Marshall for a Troy Smith, I would do it in a heartbeat.

  3. Smith looked wicked awesome last weekend. He could be a good pickup for a team in need…
