This morning, we asked Eagles spokesman Derek Boyko whether Michael Vick had authored a blog on the website GobalGrind.com.
Boyko said, “It’s not him, I just asked him.”
Tonight, 13 hours later, Boyko reiterated the official position. “Clearly, he did not write the blog,” Boyko said. “He’s never blogged. He has no plans to.”
So where exactly did the words for Vick’s supposed post, “What I Did Was Horrendous” (billed as “a GlobalGrind exclusive”) originate?
A source says the post was cobbled together by Russell Simmons, editor-in-chief of GlobalGrind and the founder of Def Jam records. The source says Simmons ghostwrote the post after having a conversation with Vick last week.
Vick, the source says, didn’t authorize Simmons to write it on his behalf and had no idea the conversation was in any way “on the record.” Still, Vick has no problem with the contrite content of the blog, either.
And while a Def Jam spokesman told the Philadelphia Daily News earlier today that “[w]e stand 100 percent behind the blog’s authenticity,” Vick is standing just as firmly behind his contention that he didn’t write it.
So if Vick is telling the truth, the obvious question is why Simmons would take advantage of Vick by taking an off-the-record conversation and turning it into a first-person blog post? To generate page views? To give Vick another platform for demonstrating remorse and contrition? (There’s got to be a third reason, but I can’t come up with it.)
It remains to be seen whether Vick insists on a clarification, or whether he decides to focus on the bigger challenges he now faces.
Whether Vick pushes the matter likely depends on whether he gets the sense that the Eagles don’t believe his explanation.

So, Vick didn’t write it, but he agrees with the message, while at the same time he didn’t know how it got posted, but he gets credit for it anyway.

If Vick’s paycheck is any indication of his intelligence then he would be some sort of succesful doctor or some type of profession that actually requires you to be smart. If you read the blog you can kind of tell that it was written by someone else.
Plus, I don’t get the big deal? In the “Vick Blog” there was no incriminated admittance in it. He just reiterated that he was wrong and that he now knows the error of his way.
And to be honest Vick has no credibility at this point. So Simmons could crap on a piece of paper, scan it into a computer and say that it was a blog written by Vick and people would believe him.
I think this is just overblown nonsense. Take the time to read the “blog” it doesn’t state anything that he didn’t say on 60 minutes. In fact the 60 minutes piece told us more that we didn’t know about Vick then this “blog”.
This just goes to show you that ANYTHING that comes out having to do with Vick will stir controversy. Even if there’s no controversy to be stirred.

@ Philly I know rappers use ghost writers for SOME songs because I happen to be a rap fan. Not the lifestyle or their lack of ability to speak the english language, but of the ability to lyrically do what they do in their songs. Not all of them use ghost writers obviously but some do. And yes I am jealous of Vicks ability, like every damn man in the world. However, I’d rather have my ability to appreciate life and the brains to keep myself out of trouble and my moral compass then be a rich scumbag. And you don’t have to go to Harvard or any Ivy league school to be able to speak the English language properly. In fact you just have to make it past pre-school

@ killa: You do realize that most hip hop artists don’t speak “the Queen’s English” in order to rebel against the status quo. It’s pretty much calculated. Also, they speak in code so others won’t “infiltrate” their ideas.
Anyway, Vick’s actions were obviously horrible, but wouldn’t it be worse if he didn’t at least attempt to be a better man. Many folks just live a life of crime without contrition. Vick seems to try to correct his poor choices. Of course he has motivation, but aren’t all of us motivated by something?
