With Mike Vick and Pat White expected to be the Wildcat quarterbacks in Philly and Miami, respectively, a good question has emerged regarding the composition of the game day rosters in both cities.
The rub, in this case, comes from the "emergency quarterback" rule.
So we've made the topic the focus of our Monday morning item for SportingNews.com.
Here it is.

Hey, thats what i said on the other post....
Kolb will be third string and will come in only if McNabb is gone for the game. Or, they will dress one less special teamer/backup lineman. I do not see that happening....

Maybe there should be an article about how the Eagles will fit him onto the roster.
Specifically how KOLB feels about the fact the he will be the third QB and deactivated every game. Vick cannot be third QB or he cannot come in for any plays.
Kolb still could be the backup out of the third spot bu only if McNabb goes down - not to return.
After reading this article I am beginning to think Florio uses this website as his own little fun and practice lol.
Mike, they also could have given Vick a RB or WR number... But, that would require one less person.
Here is what I think the deal with the NFL was. Feel freee to use this for your next Sporting News article (hahaha).
I think that the sales point to the Eagles was: let Vick prove he is a good citizen and benefit from the Wildcat as well as improve your backup QB. Vick must remain a QB so that you can sell him in the offseason. So, the Eagles get an upgrade on a backup, take a minor PR hit, and then get to trade Vick for a number 1 or 2 or 3 pick before next year. Also, they get to control where he goes - nowhere in the NFC East (Vick is arguably better than every QB in East not named McNabb).
Pretty good deal for the Eagles. Or they integrate him so well that McNabb and Vick stay on the team, still reasonably priced, through the second season of the deal.
So the league says, give him a chance, have Donovan tutor him and be rewarded with a high draft pick. And we know how the Eagles LOVE these high draft picks!
Hmmm, was this article removed from PFT?
Kolb will stay as #2 QB, Vick will dress as a part of the 45 active players and McNabb, Vick, Kolb and whoever else, can all play at anytime. This isn't rocket science. You'll have one less active TE, RB or Lineman, its really not a wild concept.
What a stupid rule...If u dress u should be able to play whenever...Who comes up with this crap??

you had me until you went and made an ignorant statement like ...
(Vick is arguably better than every QB in East not named McNabb).
Vick is one of the most overrated 'Quarterbacks' in the history of the game. He's borderline terrible. His only asset is his athleticism, which doesn't help his terrible accuracy any. If he couldn't run like he did he would never be taken as a quarterback.
He's barely a 50% passer and his INTs and TDs are close to the same.
He's never thrown for 3,000 yards, and in fact only passed 2,500 once.
He fumbles consistently and for such a mobile quarterback he's been sacked 33+ times in 4 of his 6 seasons.
Funny, none of the NFC East QBs have any stats close to those numbers. Vick is a joke.
The rule is there to allow you to dress a player, which 99.9% of the time will never see the field so they don't count him. Its designed to help teams, which it does. In the very rare instance that you lose two qb's in one game.
Designate them as a receiver or running back and give them those numbers instead of the ones they have now. Otherwise they have to decide who the backup is going to really be and how much risk they want to take on the chance their primary QB might get injured.
It will be interesting to see how they do it. I'm thinking Vick #2 and Kolb #3 (although I like Feeley better) and if McNabb does go down, Kolb goes in and Vick will have to be a non-participant until the 4th quarter.
START VICK!!!
List him as a WR, keep Kolb #2, AJ as emergency

Arguably is the keyword. Florio wrote an article where he said that Vick is better than Romo and Campbell. See it here: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/07/20/plenty-of-teams-should-want-vick/
Also, Vick's career numbers are almost identical to Eli Manning's numbers. At least the QB rankings. One could argue that Vick could do more with less.
Also, keep in mind - I said arguably. I would take Vick over Romo and Campbell but not Eli.
Smush I'm the other way around, I'd take campbell and romo over vick and vick over rainman eli manning
Forget the roster dilemma. In terms of the Wildcat itself, the cat is out of the bag. Every single team in the league has had an offseason to prepare for it.
Let's not forget that the element of surprise is the most important part of the Wildcat. When the Dolphins unveiled it last year in New England, and the Patriots defense had no answer whatsoever. It was the first time in the Belichick era that I have ever seen the Patriots beaten at their own game of confusing other teams. Seriously, the Pats defense was brought to its knees that day.
That won't happen this year because teams like the Patriots have had an offseason to prepare. And so the Wildcat will not be so effective.
That's the real issue, Florio, not the roster spot.
I think the emergency QB rule is stupid, but I'm also biased. I think you should be able to keep three QB's on the roster, play them whenever. Really, what kind of competitive advantage is there to having a 3rd QB you can use anytime?
Gentlemen Mike Vick was brought in to be Super5's backup. Can we say Superior7!
The Wildcat is not going to be nearly as effective this year as last. The only real reason it was effective is the element of surprise. That Florio seems to think that it will somehow make teams unable to fully prepare for the regular offense is not true at all. Think about how much time and effort it really takes to gameplan and prepare for an extra 4 or 5 snaps. I know the athletes are not the brightest bunch but the Ravens sure didn't seem to have any problems last year and I doubt with this much time and now (via the Ravens) a formula for stopping it that most teams will have too hard of a time.
