As a Bengal season ticket holder, I am tired of holdouts every year. How much do these kids think they are worth? Andre had ‘holdout’ written all over him before they handed him his jersey. Leave him unsigned…Let him go back in the draft next year.

First, There is a 1st round Bengals Smith curse (Akili, Justin, and now Andre). The Bengals should NEVER draft a Smith in the first round!
Second, I think this is a “teach ‘em all a lesson” from Mike Brown. I think he is incensed over the agent change thing. I fully expect no deal this year, and then when Andre re-enters the draft next year, I expect Mike to pick Andre a second time and not negotiate again… just to teach him a lesson.

As has been mentioned in another thread, this is the final UNCAPPED year – so again, what are the repercussions, if any, of NOT signing Andre Smith to a contract paying him far more than the Bengals think he’s worth?

I’m starting to wonder if NOT signing him is the plan?
Isn’t this the next best thing to trading-out of the first round when the only players unanimously touted as worthy-of-first-round-money are already off the draft board when your turn comes ’round?
What happens if we NEVER sign him? Anyone think he’ll get first-round-money of ANY sort as a free agent?

Gohlston is worth every bit of his deal right? The guy had 1 tackle last year as a #6 pick and it was on speacial teams. I praise the 9ers, Bills and Bengals. Put these guys in their place. It’s the other 29 teams screwing it up! (Raiders)! Reset the standard NFL teams. Follow these three teams sainess! It’s an example people, not being tight! 33-35 mil is never tight.

You clearly do not know what you are talking about when it comes to being drafted by Buffalo. The Bills have no problem consistently paying the correct amount to the players that they draft, based on what the corresponding position paid last year and what current positions just ahead and behind are paid.

A. Collins can hold down the fort all season as far as I’m concerned. He would just be a very expensive backup and will be WAY behind missing all of TC and is guaranteed to be over weight.

This falls completely on the Bengals front office. How could they have NOT seen this coming from a character like Andre Smith? Why would anyone waste a draft pick on this guy? Obviously his greed and selfishness is going to drive him to hold out for as long as possible. Smith still believes he should have been the first pick in the draft and is going to hold out until he sees that kind of money. The NFL needs to do something about these rookie salaries, it’s pretty pathetic most of these rookies make more money than PROVEN veterans!

Here’s the difference between Smith and Crabtree. Crabtree is asking for 50% more than he should get in his slot. The 49ers are, wisely, staying put. Smith is asking for market for his slot and, oh-so-shockingly, the Bengals are creating problems with their legendary cheapness.
The Bengals are also hoping to parlay Smith’s pre-draft issues into leverage so that he, and not the Bengals, are seen as the bad guys.
But, given how fast everyone gets on rookies for holding out, it’s really telling that, when it comes to Smith, all the usual suspects are keeping their lips zipped as to what he should and shouldn’t do.
If you get to the NFL, jackpot, but, man, Cincy and Buffalo from a pay perspective, may be the worst teams to have drafting you.

How do the Bengals even think that they can begin negotiations this way? I understand that different positions can warrant varying pay, but it’s almost as if the organization wants a holdout with this stance. Obviously they are going to end up paying him more than what Gholston got last year… right?
