It's official — Favre is a Viking

Well, it’s done.

If you don’t believe us, click this link to the Vikings’ official web site.  You’ll see there the smiling face of a gray-haired, gray-stubbled quarterback and this question:

“Are you ready 4 some football?”

Beneath that, there’s a reminder that “limited season tickets are still available.”

And when you click the link to the home page, you’ll see that it’s a done deal.

Vikings sign Brett Favre.”

Wow.

What a joke favre has become, and when he goes out and throws their superbowl dreams into the hands of the eagerly awaiting DBs all you Favre-whores will finally see this guy should have just shut it down.
Sorry Viking fans you wont come close to the superbowl this year and you’re gonna pay the THIRD best QB in your division 10-12 million.

Really? The guy who’s been pushing Favre news in every way possible is feigning surprise?
You know, there’s this tech blog I like to visit, but they’re usually really heavy on Apple-related news. However, it’s not too much of a problem, because they have a setting where you can disable any news with an Apple tag.
I would LOVE a “Don’t show me Favre news” button. PLEASE.

Congrats to Viking fan Bob Nelson with being on the money about Brett Farve never thinking about playing for or signing with the Vikings.
According to one of Bob’s previous posts, the Vikings signed “the greatest human being on Earth in the past 2000 years!”.

Let’s see here. Old washed up QBs through the years who have donned the purple. Jim McMann, Warren Moon, Randal Cunningham, Jeff George, Brad Johnson, Ole Gus, and now Ole Brett. How did it ever come to this for a once proud football team?
Haven’t had a steady QB since the 70s and have not even sniffed the Super Bowl since the 70s. I see a link here.
Hate to say it fellow Vikes fans, looks like another 8 and 8 season with or without #4. Nice knowing ya Chilly.

  22. bofarr says: Aug 18, 2009 2:58 PM

Is Gary Anderson coming out of retirement too?

  23. JoeSixPack says: Aug 18, 2009 2:59 PM

Seems to me Favre was playing the Packers for a fat retirement package… and was prepared to screw the Vikings, leaving them in a QB lurch after flirting with them all pre-season – as payment.
But the Packers didn’t pay up – so Favre instead has now sold his soul (and reputation and legacy) to their arch rival.
He’s made a mockery of himself for probably an additional $10 million.

  27. TeflonDon says: Aug 18, 2009 3:02 PM

yup, another 8-8 season, just like last ye…oh, wait.
okay, let me get this straight, y’all…vikes stick with t-jack, everything is cool, packers, bears and lions fans are still scared.
vikes sign brett favre, all of the sudden, the vikings are a bad team. being aware of the lions is a must.
so…if the vikes bench favre and play t-jack, does that mean the vikings are good again? do the rest of the teams in the division stop benefitting? i can’t, for the life of me, figure out where this “trainwreck” idea is coming from. was last year a trainwreck for the vikings? if so, then by all means, continue with the term. but forgive me if it makes NO SENSE to me to say that signing brett favre will destroy this vikings team. no sense at all.

    This is gonna be great!
I was really worried about our defense this year, with the unproven talent and the new scheme and all, but how can they not put up numbers against the original INT/sack king?
Best thing that could have happened to us is this signing. Too bad it helps the Bears as well. It’ll be a hard fight against Cutler, Urlacher and Co. if we are going to be able to take the division this year.

I was trying to provide a quick summary of each QB. But fine.
Cunningham: Led us to our best season ever, lost in the NFC Championship only because of Gary Anderson. We went 15-1, Cunningham tossed for 36 TDs and had a 106.0 QB rating, coupled with a trip to the Pro Bowl
Jeff George: When Cunningham sputtered, George stepped up to the plate, saved the Vikings season by going 8-2 down the stretch, and threw 23 TDs in 10 games, and had a 94.2 rating. He led us to a win over the Cowboys in the Wildcard round, before losing to the Greatest Show on the Turf. For some reason, didn’t go to the Pro Bowl. Probably because he’s Jeff George.
Warren Moon: Brought us to the playoffs two years in a row while posting great numbers. 18 TDs in 94, 33 TDs at age 39 in 95! Two Pro Bowl years for Moon, but he didn’t manage to win a playoff game.
Brad Johnson: People seem to forget he STARTED his career with the Vikes. Went 8-5 as a starter in 97, while throwing 20 TDs with an 84.5 QB rating. Went down in the Wildcard game against the Giants, which the Vikings won anyway. He returned in 05, and almost saved the Vikings season, before having an awful year in 06.
Jim McMahon: Posted an 8-4 record as starter, but had mediocre stats. 8 TDs, 9 INTs. Lost his playoff start.
So are all of those guys miserable failures??

You little Packer, Bear, and Lion trolls are missing the point. Favre has the best supporting cast on this team that ghe’s ever had in his life.
The offensive line, defensive line, secondary, linebackers, runningbacks, receivers, TE, etc. all kick ass. The whole off-season was spent upgrading the Special Teams and over-all depth.
This team is more talented that the Packer team that won the Super Bowl.
Dorsey Levens? Edgar Bennett? Robert Brooks? ROFLMFAO!
A young Jared Allen in his prime takes an over-the-hill Reggie White out of the equation. Pat and Kevin are far more talented than Gilbert Brown.
Face the facts, the only thing that gave the Bears and Packers hope against the Vikes was their piss poor QB siotuation with T-Joke and Sage, but now? You’re screwed BIG-TIME. Favre doesn’t have to throw much because Adrian runs through ya like a train. And when it’s not him, in come Chester Taylor, Ian Johnson, etc.
    You’re toast, my friends. ROFLMAO!

Not that I expect you’ll believe me, but not all of us worshiped him. I always saw him as an overhyped, overpaid whiny diva (I sure didn’t mind all the wins though).
You all need to realize that age IS a factor, something the schoolgirl-giddy Viking faithful have outright ignored.
Read: he WAS elite, he WAS one of the best ever. That was a while ago, as you yourselves have said for five years.
He IS washed up and weak-armed, he IS the all time INT leader, and he IS 40 years old! So you’re damn right, yippee is what you’ll be hearing from us.
The Vikings always sign all our former players (penis envy), thinking they’re gonna be what they were when we had them, but they don’t realize if they had anything left in the tank, we wouldn’t have let them go! Okay, Longwell wasn’t too bad a move, but how about Ferguson, Sharper et al?
And now we see the ultimate expression of that envy. And now once again, there’s a reason we let the man leave. You’ll learn that soon enough though, and then you’ll be exactly as enamored with him as Jet fans are now.
You are the biggest shit-talking bandwagon jumpers in the league. I don’t hate the Vikings, (the Bears are our ACTUAL rival) but I sure as hell hate their fans.
Can’t wait for October when your team loses, you all go into hibernation and the shit talk stops. Until March of course, when you all crown yourselves SB Champs again.

While Favre does make some nice plays, he makes more than his fair share of mistakes.
His last 4 years he’s had 88 TDs and 84 INTs as well as 27 lost fumbles. Not hall of fame numbers by any stretch of the imagination. I would have taken a flyer on Vick instead.

Favre wins many more games than he loses. True Packer fans can attest to that.
Part of the int problem with the Packers and Jets was the fact they RELIED ON HIM to DO IT ALL just like the Broncos with Elway. What happened when Terell Davis arrived to lessen the load? Back to back Super Bowls.
Favre isn’t worse than Kurt Warner or Kerry Collins. You saw what they did last year.
    Cunningham in ’98. Same story.

F****** traitor. I hope he gets sacked 10 times in Lambeau field. I am an Eagles fan, but my wife and son love the Packers. They are going to be pissed.
    ————————————————-
This coming from a guy who’s team just signed the most hated man in professional sports. Unreal…
It is a sad testament that many posters here are willing to utterly absolve Michael “Dawgkilla” Vick for partaking some of the most barbaric crimes I have ever heard of an NFL player committing, yet want to crucify Favre for the simple crime of wanting to continue playing football.
I am a Packers fan as well, and could care less what Favre does. If he sucks as bad as most of the posters here claim he does, the Bi-Queens will have a losing season and he’ll (finally) ride off to retirement. However, if Favre does take them to the Superbowl and the Pack doesn’t make the playoffs, I can only pray it will mark the end of the Tightwad Ted era in Green Bay.
Regardless of what Favre does with the Queens, it will never change one iota of what he did for the Packers, or the countless records he set as a player. Michael Vick on the other hand, will always be remembered as a lowlife sociopathic sadist who got off on torturing animals to death and violating federal statutes by running illicit interstate gambling rings. Which would you prefer your legacy to reflect?

    Wow,
The Vikings will make the playoffs and have a better season then the Packers.
    Nice move Vikes.

Actually, it’s even better than that. They’re going to win the Superbowl! Haven’t you heard all the Viking fans on here, all offseason? Apparently it’s a done deal, might as well give them the trophy now.

ROFLMAO!
    —————————–
You, sir, are chugging the kool-aid. This team is more talented than the ’96 Packers? Right. That team ranked as the #1 offense and #1 defense in the league. The 2008 Vikings were the #17 offense and #6 defense (by yards). If you prefer to rank them by points, it’s #12 and #13. Do you really think their offseason has propelled them that much?
And Reggie White was over the hill? The man had three sacks in the Super Bowl. If that’s over the hill, then give me an entire team of over the hill guys.
Pat and Kevin are far more talented than Gilbert? OK. How about Gilbert Brown and Santana Dotson? The defense ranked #1 by both yardage and points. Have Pat and Kevin ever been on a defense that could say that? Probably not. And certainly not in Minnesota.
