Report: Favre is expected to sign with Vikings today

WCCO has seen the WISN report, and raised it.

According to Mark Rosen of the Minneapolis/St. Paul CBS affiliate, Favre will sign a contract with the Vikings today.

Somewhere, Jay Glazer just yelled, “Bingo!  Bingo!  Eat it, ladies!”

    HELL YESS VIKINGS SUPER BOWL

  3. descendency says: Aug 18, 2009 11:11 AM

    I should probably explain why…
At first I thought he might be really retiring, but it looks more like he just wants to go out there and sling the football around. Doesn’t care about making his team better. Training camps aren’t just for QBs. They are for crappy wide receivers too. Brett needs them as much as they need him. It’s part of being a QB. Timing is everything and Brett just can’t put in the hard work..

Favre, you are a strange cat, dude. It will take hundreds of years for phsyc scholars to determine how this all happened. You are weird. I used to think you were the man, now I just thing you;re a weird man.

It was obvious that he didn’t want to go through the rigors of training camp. He more than likely had the playbook since June. Either way, I’m picking him up in my Fantasy League.

  21. beyondclarity says: Aug 18, 2009 11:23 AM

AK-47 – I’d rather be able to go back at Packer fans saying we’ve won just as many with him as they did…
He didn’t want to go to camp and I’m sure he saw that #1 defense on Friday and became certain that we really are as good as people might think.
    BOOM!!!

  23. Big Stretch says: Aug 18, 2009 11:24 AM

And so begins the unraveling of the Vikings. In a team sport “team chemistry” would seem to be an important part of a successful season.
The primadonna lives and proves that playing the QB postion longer than anyone else is worth totally disrupting the team chemistry. Sorry Viking fans you are screwed this year 8-8 at best with a total collapse in the looker room, but on the bright side maybe jared allen will go nuts and pull a tom cable on him.

  24. hayward giablommi says: Aug 18, 2009 11:25 AM

This brings up a dilemma for me…whom do I want to fail more…Brett Fav-rah or Mick Vick?
As much as Vick makes my skin crawl, I almost feel pity for Favre at this point. I honestly don’t know who I hate more, but if there is a football god, please, may both these jerkoffs fail miserably this year.

  25. CdnMike says: Aug 18, 2009 11:26 AM

    Where’s Bob Nelson?!?!
I imagine he is feeling pretty stupid about all of his posts sticking up for his boy Brett Fav-re.
I, like many Viking fans right now I’m sure, am feeling very conflicted. I hate this guy but I could never hate the Vikings. I have a feeling after a few wins I’ll be cheering for him. Ugh, I might have to kick my own ass.

  26. Ambrose says: Aug 18, 2009 11:26 AM

No need to worry AK-47…..the Vikings won’t be winning any SuperBowls with Favre. Everyone in Minnesota seems to forget that we have watched him fade late in the season every year for four straight years, and you have only seen him in occasional highlite reels. I would say “good luck”, but it wouldn’t work.
    One last thing….GO PACK!

  27. lateralus82 says: Aug 18, 2009 11:27 AM

  28. realitypolice says: Aug 18, 2009 11:27 AM

As of 11:26am, there is absolutely nothing about this on the front page of ESPN.com. What a bunch of petulant assholes. What, since their guy didn’t break it, they won’t report it at all. Between this, the Cable thing, and the Roethlisberger thing, they are risking whatever shred of credibility they ever had.

2009 will officially be Chilly’s last season in Minnesota. Mark it down. The Wilfs will look at Favre as their last remaining puzzle piece. If Childress can’t win it all this year, he’ll be gone in the offseason.

  42. patsSB44champs says: Aug 18, 2009 11:36 AM

This could well be the missing piece. The Jets struggled last year because they had Favre throw the ball around too much. He won’t have to do that in Arizona. He can throw occasional deep balls to Harvin and Berrian, opening things up for Adrian Peterson.
I fully expect Peterson to rush for 2,000 yards this season.

  49. PurpleRaid12 says: Aug 18, 2009 11:43 AM

I agree 100% with you AK-47, BUT if we do win with Favre, we can throw it back in the pack face by explaining, in 1 season with the Vikings (at 40 yrs old, mind you) we won a Super Bowl with him, whereas the Packer’s won only one SB with him in 16 seasons……

  50. Steeler4life says: Aug 18, 2009 11:47 AM

I have been a DIE-HARD Viking fan since they came into the league in 1961 and I have to say that this may be THE biggest mistake they have ever made….even bigger than the trade for Walker in the 80′s.
We had everything lined up for a Super Bowl run this year and now all of that goes down the toilet for a washed up, has-been Ex-Packer, renegade.
    NICE JOB BRAD!

Yeah, they did so well they felt the need to bend over backwards to get Favre in there. And they were willing to throw away Sage and Tarvaris for it. Trust me. This doesn’t end well for the Vikings. The only outcome that justifies it is a Super Bowl win. And I won’t pretend that’s not a possibility, but if I were a Vikings fan I’d be begging them to draft or trade for a long-term answer at QB. They haven’t done that. Peterson is still young. They need to get some talent around him on offense for years to come. Right now they don’t have it.
If Favre doesn’t work out this season, they’re looking for another stop-gap solution to take another shot next year, or they recognize the problem and draft a young QB. Chilly would be gone, and they’d be in a mini-rebuilding phase. The defense is good, but Pat Williams isn’t going to play forever. When he retires the defense will suffer. The LB play won’t look as good, the run defense gets worse and the pass defense is already bad.
I’m not scared about Favre. I know you just need to get a lead on the Vikings and he’ll start forcing passes. Easier said than done, but that’s the key. It takes Peterson out of the game plan and puts the ball in Favre’s hands. And I know his play declines at the end of the season when the Vikings will need him most.

  81. Surfdog says: Aug 19, 2009 1:32 PM

Awesome! Now I can watch the Vikings crash and burn in December as Favre folds again like a cheap suit! The only bad part in all this is that Chilly will be fired at the end of the season and the Queenies may hire a decent coach.
