Jonathan Stewart continues to rest

While one Jon Stewart makes headlines for taking the President to task, a lesser known one is struggling just to take the football field.

Panthers backup running back Jonathan Stewart has now missed more than a week of practice with a sore Achilles, and wasn’t on the field Wednesday morning.

Stewart missed almost all work before training camp with the same injury, the second straight offseason where he’s barely practiced.  (He was recovering from toe surgery last year.)

The Panthers backfield remains in good shape with DeAngelo Williams starting, but Stewart’s inability to stay healthy has to be a concern.  Most observers expected Stewart, the 13th overall pick in last year’s draft, to pass Williams on the depth chart in short order.

The distance between the two first-round backs appears to be growing in the opposite direction.  Stewart can’t stay healthy, while ESPN’s Jon Gruden said Monday that some NFL folks believe Williams is the best back in the league.

I agree with Gruden. Williams IS the best back in the league. You win games with scoring and nobody scores more TDs from the RB position than Deangelo Williams.
As for Jon Stewart the left wing commentator/comic, it’s easy to bash Obama from the sidelines but look at the clown college Obama has to work with. Even if his ideals were feasible (which they’re not), the goofs in congress are unable to articulate them well or formulate them into any sort of workable legislation that the American people want or will stand for. I think Obama is a true believer in the left wing agenda but what neither he nor his party “get” is that most of America is NOT.

TheDPR: I agree on DeAngelo being better. I think Stewart has a ton of potential if he can stay healthy, but DeAngelo is making them regret using that #12 pick on Stewart.
On the “other” issue, I’d say majority of Americans voted for the guy and his agenda was pretty clear then.

i live in charlotte and am a panthers fan and i think gruden was nuts for saying that! sure deangelo had a great year last year but lets see him continue that
AP has done it every year he has been in the league despite not having any type of passing game to compliment him and facing 8 man boxes each week..
williams was a part-time starter his first 2 years then exploded last year, racking up huge stats with mostly 1-yd TD runs…
now i love the guy and all but there is NO ONE in the league better than Adrian Peterson (period)

I hope youre proud of yourself you just started a giant F-cking political mess of a debate in here.
Keep politics out of sports, you hack.
But since you opened that door and Irish jigged your way through….Government funded healthcare is the worst thing for this country right now….The only way for the government to fund it is by raising taxes, so you might as well keep your own private health insurance and at least you wont have to wait 6 weeks(or longer…probably much longer) for an MRI, CT scan, or X-Ray… This health care idea is just another one of thoses things that looks better on paper(much like my 2008 Browns) but as soon as you start crunching the numbers you realise how bad of an idea it was and youre blaming your politicians because you werent smart enough to do your homework in the first place. If Obama isnt careful hes gonna end up being the Phil Savage of the presidents…A big spender who has good intentions but with poor planning eventually led to a Economic Dumpster Fire.

Colonel Kurtz, people vote for personality much more than agenda, regardless of what they actually say out loud. People don’t want socialism, generally speaking.

If Williams can continue to produce like he did last season I’d like to think he deserves the title. 18 Rushing TDs on 273 attempts and absolutely 0 fumbles is stellar.
AP had 10 TDs and 9 fumbles on 363 carries. Hard to know whose better without identical lines and blocking WR/TE but I suppose production over time will have to dictate that.
Anyway, back to work. Go Panthers!

Everybody wants health care but we can’t have it because of some loud mouthed right wingers and some spineless liberals. Obama needs to grow some balls and fix this shit already.

    I couldn’t disagree more…since you all asked. Top RB’s in league…
    1. All the Broncos running backs and fullback (you go Peyton Hillis!)
    2. Clinton Portis
    3. Reggie Bush
    4. Adrian Peterson
    5. LaDainian Tomlinson (I hate LT!!!!!!!!!)
    6. Darren McFadden

I draft low this year & I’ll snap up Williams in a heartbeat if I get the chance.
LOL @ DoomsDay – “We can’t have health care because of right wingers”.
Go to the emergency room and you get treated, even if you’re an illegal alien or running from the law, and if you can’t pay then taxpayers soak up the bill.
    Try doing that in Cuba.

    Hey Florio,
Next update, no politics. LOL Anyway, I hope Stewart has a good season and I am not a Panthers fan at all. I don’t like seeing these guys hurt, especially with any kind of injury to the Achilles. Ask Dan Marino.

Right now, Stewart is the least of our worries. Our defense isn’t going to be able to stay off the field, and our QB can’t hit the broad side of a barn, unless a defender is standing there.

“I think Obama is a true believer in the left wing agenda but what neither he nor his party “get” is that most of America is NOT.”
Stop watching FOX. Or if you can’t do that, close your mouth when American Corporations try to spoon-feed you ideas. Most Americans support liberal progressive ideologies, as long as you take the NAME off of the ideas. If they consider the ideas without thinking “Dur dur Libruhl = bad!” they go “Hey, wait. I would like my tax burden decreased by taxing billionaires a little bit more,” etc.

And you’re say the Eagles suck, hahahaha! Have fun with Orton, Bronco fan. I’ll be happy to chalk up the win on my Eagles schedule weeks before we play your team, just like every other team.

Jon Stewart ripped BO a new one! OMGZers!!! “It was the kind of moment that, if it grows legs, could destroy Obama’s political career.”

How’s that prediction working out for ya, Mike? Yeah, I know this one was written by Greggggg.

broncoman, you’re the worst NFL fan ever. You honestly think any one of the Bronco’s Halfbacks is better than Adrian Peterson? And that a guy who can’t stay healthy (and, surprise! played in denver before) is really the second best HB in the league? GO AWAY BRONCOMAN
