Buffalo rookie defensive end Aaron Maybin will have to find out what training camp is like next season.
As the Bills wrap up their stay at St. John Fisher College in Rochester on Wednesday, their rookie holdout doesn't appear close to joining the team. The Associated Press indicates that neither the Bills nor Maybin's side are giving any positive indications that a deal is near.
There appeared to be some hope last week, when progress was reportedly made. But the eleventh overall pick of the draft appears to be waiting for 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree to sign his deal first.
Maybin has missed 36 practices, including walkthroughs, and two preseason games. A Buffalo columnist is starting to turn against him, and there have been reports that defensive end Chris Ellis is using his extra practice snaps to impress the coaching staff.
This is all typical stuff for a long holdout, but it won't help Maybin avoid a slow start to his rookie season.
If nothing else, the Bills can be comforted that the rest of their large rookie class is doing well and will have big roles on the team. And unlike fellow holdouts Crabtree and Bengals tackle Andre Smith, Maybin wasn't expected to start as a rookie.
If Maybin's holdout drags on into September, he might not do a heck of a lot in his first year.
Maybin talks going nowhere

I am a Bills fan and we need help rushing the QB, but at this point they shouldn't sign him at all this year. Everyone knows that rookies who don't show up to camp, and play in the preseason don't end up contributing much that season. So let him reenter the draft next year with Crabtree and the 2 idiots can try to get 1st round money from the 3rd round.
I didn't like this pick when they made it, and then to find out Maybin is working with LaVarr Arrington ( underachieve much ) made me really not like the pick.
Hey Maybin, kiss your rookie season goodbye and if Chris Ellis shows some inprovement while you exercise your Madden skills, you may be nothing but a rotation guy in your second year, that is if the Bills give in to him. They were willing to dump a "probowl" LT, what makes you think you're that special.
Stand firm Ralph teach these kids a lesson, and let him sit out the year becasue at this point he probably wont contribute anyway.
Is there a date he must sign by or he re-enters the draft? Or is it just before the draft?
I understand the whole "it's a business" argument, but that just doesn't work anymore. "It's a business" for everyone in the entire draft, and they are all signed and in camp. This situation has become exceptional and he can't continue to claim that it's just the business of football. In addition, "it's a business" for everyone on the Bills roster. They are all in camp, and they all got to camp in a reasonable time after being drafted in their respective drafts. What's so special about this guy, the number 11 pick? He is now in the proud and exclusive company of perhaps the biggest diva in the draft and the guy who bungled the pre-draft process at every turn. Further, he appeared insulted a few weeks ago to be compared to Crabtree. Well, Aaron, who is there left for you to be compared to? Crabtree or Smith? Or the hundreds of players who have already signed their deals and reported to work? Or the other defensive ends that Buffalo could have drafted, who have already begun to contribute for their teams? Besides, if he is waiting for Crabtree to blow up the slotting process, then he is doing THE SAME THING as Crabtree, and can be quite fairly compared to him. Unfortunately for Buffalo fans, this is not the kind of person we thought we had drafted. We definitely didn't have him in a class with Crabtree and Smith.
Big Stretch is right, players that hold out and dont go to camp, have a tendency to get injured, or just cant find the find because they havent picked up the playbook.
And LaVarr Arrington was a talented player, he was just too busy free lancing to make every tackle, so he was always out of position. I wouldnt want that kind of player teaching a rookie...... Just saying
Who the hell is Aaron Maybin that he thinks he can hold out all preseason? For his agent to be "waiting" on the Crabtree contract as an excuse for not getting this done is absurd. You know the Moreno numbers at 12, you know the Raji numbers at 9, so you have plenty of information to benchmark a deal and slot it in there and get your guy in camp. This holdout stuff by guys that haven't played a snap in the league is getting out of hand. They should discount the deal just based on the fact that they know they won't be getting max value in his rookie year. Another kids career jeopardized by some agent more concerned with counting his dollars on the commission. Sad.
And Eugene Parker sticks it to the Bills again!!!
what a shame; i feel the bills are legit this year and are a defensive piece away from the playoffs, and this guy just wont be able to help now; maybe ever. they could have had mike oher [who filled a bigger need], and now it;s like they didnt even get another pick from jason peters.
Correction to my previous post, I meant to say that players that hold out struggle to find the field, not struggle to find the find......
Ike,
Parker isn't even Maybin's agent.
Everyone else.. if Maybin signs tomorrow, does any of this matter? He's a pass-rushing specialist and was only expected to play a few downs a game anyway this first year. It's not like he needs months of practice for that.
That being said, he's a punk for pulling this "it's business, I need to get my business done", crap.

Emulcifier,
Eugene Parker is Crabtree's agent, so he is sticking it to us.
they should of drafted Orakpo
On the other hand,
Maybe the bills, bangles and san fran should have seen this coming and drafted somebody else who would accept offers. I say that maybin has a leg to stand on considering how atrocious the bills pass rush has been in recent memory. Even if he contributes a little, it will mean a lot to a team that should have a potent offense and will most likely struggle on defense with a weak pass rush and small, inexperienced linebackers.
So who cares if maybin gets super rich. Ralph needs to swallow his pride, open his check book and pay this potential freak because he will considerably help the defense. The whole division has its eyes set on brady- and who else on the bills will get to him? Maybe schobel if he stays healthy. The bills and their fans seem to loathe players like Maybin who want tons of money, so the team avoids signing them.
The bills have not made the playoffs in a decade.
Maybe its time to change? Of course, in a city that is still nostalgic for the manufacturing age and seems reluctant to move on despite a terrible economy and dilapidated city, change is easier said than done. Way to go bills fans- your support of a mediorcre team and its obsolete owner will successfully run the franchise out of the city.
