VoxVeritas says:
August 20, 2009 11:39 AM
Johnny Mathis is so moved that he did a duet with Roger Goodell.
JOHNNY:
Guess it's over, call it a day
Sorry that it had to end this way
No reason to pretend
We knew it had to end some day,
this way
ROGER:
Yes, it's over, Plax is gone
What's the use of tryin' to hang on?
Somewhere he lost the key
So little left for him and me
and it's clear to see
blah, blah, blah...
Wow, something does suck more than your normal posting. Maybe you can parlay that into a duet with Tony Romo playing "Dueling Banjo's" from "Deliverance".

redsquare -
there's a concept out there called "forgiveness".
maybe you'll learn about it some day.
or maybe you'll just screw something up, and have idiots harp in your face about how you should be punished eternally for it.
Goodell IS drawing a much harder line than Tagliabue ever did. The league IS responding to the deviants.
Do 2 years and then preach about how a criminal is always a criminal. Reform happens, that's what prison is about. But then again I'm sure you've never broken a law or done anything wrong. Congrats.
Deal with it and squash the hatred.

Is it over? Probably.
Here's the thing. He can go back in a couple of years and make a run at playing. And there will probably be teams interested. And he would probably get signed as a #2. But will he want to?
This is a guy whose troubles are due to his high profile - because he's recognizable. 2 years out of the public consciousness he won't be that guy. He won't have that profile anymore. Sure maybe there will be a blurb in the paper or a spot on the tv about it, but wait a month or 2 and he's forgotten. Free to live the rest of his life without the burdens of fame he's seen first hand. If it's about money then it's a different story. But if he's got enough money to live on afterwards I don't see why he'd want back.
He'll be 2 years into a prison surrounded by many other guys who are in there for something stupid like pot possession. He'll hear the stories. He'll come out knowing that the justice system in America isn't just broken - it's evil. Why would he want to make himself a target again?
You know he already took a chance on the grand jury opening their eyes and recognizing the witch hunt for what it was. And of course they didn't. He's read the press. He's read the blogs. He must have realized that the public is so messed up they can't discern right from wrong anymore. Couple that with the realization the powers that be can do whatever the hell they want? You can call that an epiphany.
I think he's done. I think he knows he's done. I think he'll be happy to forget about all of this when the time comes. I think he'll leave the country. I would.

Big ben Rapistburger: I hear what you're trying to say, but McNabb/Feely is not a very good example.
RedSquare: I like your sentiment best. I think it should've done a long time ago.
Saying all that, it is apparent that you better know what state you're in, at the time, when you break a law. And it also goes to show that common sense ain't common.......for players, law makers, and those that enforce the laws.
If they offered him 6 months and he turned it down, doesn't that show that they think 2 years is a bit much? Guess he should've taken their offer?!? Stupid lawyers!
disclaimer: stupid lawyer doesn't include Mike Florio since he is no longer actively practicing law.....allegedly.

Beings that we still don't know how well or if Vick will be able to return to the game after a year and some time away, I'd have to believe that Plax would have even a harder time since he's been out of the loop since last November or so...These pro athletes are at an elite level. Whether or not they can regain that edge that they once had is still to be determined.
# Bunson says: August 20, 2009 11:22 AM
As an Eagles fan I really dislike the giants, however, recently I have, I have learned to dislike our court systems even more. I understand why the punishment of Plax is so harsh (law changes stemming from the Puffy incident in the JLO era), but even with that being said, Ray Lewis killed a man (or at least had a role in having it done). Jamal Lewis set up a drug deal for kilos of cocaine. Granted in the Plax case, his negligence posed a threat to innocent people. However, had Plax strapped his belt a little tighter that night, no one would have known he had a gun. Plax made a mistake, and got caught in the most embarassing way possible and missed an NFL season. I think out of these 3 cases, Plax has been most punished for his actions, which were probably the least harmful of the 3. Looking for an Ex-Con Eagles team in 2012.
==============================
It was only the least harmful of the three, because he shot himself. Would it have been the least harmful, if the bullet had missed his leg, ricocheted off of the floor, and killed someone? I am not going to pretend that the justice system isnt messed up. But I am so tired of people trying to compare court cases. The laws are set up, the way they are set up, thats it, end of story.
Comparing the court cases is like comparing players contracts. Using your argument, and the argument of many like you, it is fair to say that since McNabb makes 10 million dollars a year, then Feeley should make 10 million dollars a year. They are both QB's, they both play for the Eagles, they both throw with their right hand, they both hand off to the same running backs, they both throw to the same receivers........... Oh, but one is first string, and one is second string. Get it, comparing legal punishments for different people is stupid.
You can disagree with the punishment all you want, and I dont disagree with you, it seems a bit stupid that manslaughter gets you 3 weeks, and shooting yourself gets you 2 years. But it doesnt matter what we think.......

The NFL has really dropped the ball at a critical time. To put it simply, the character of NFL players, on average, is getting worse. The best are still great, but more brutish thugs are getting in every year.
The right thing for the NFL to do would be to draw the line, hard, with all the current cases. Run a dogfighting operation? Fire an unlicensed gun in a bar? Kill someone while drunk driving?
Banned for life. All of them.
And just like that, quick and easy, the NFL shows that it means business. Players get the zero-tolerance message. Kids are spared from having morally reprehensible scum to root for on their teams of choice.
But by letting Vick in an being wishy-washy in so many other cases, Goodell & co. have left the door wide open to more bad behavior in the future. The only message that's being given is that if you get caught, you'll sit out for a while, then it's back to business.
This will be the legacy of Vick, and Goodell, Dungy, and the Eagles will be remembered by history as failing at the key moment.

Johnny Mathis is so moved that he did a duet with Roger Goodell.
JOHNNY:
Guess it's over, call it a day
Sorry that it had to end this way
No reason to pretend
We knew it had to end some day,
this way
ROGER:
Yes, it's over, Plax is gone
What's the use of tryin' to hang on?
Somewhere he lost the key
So little left for him and me
and it's clear to see
JOHNNY: Too much, too little, too late to lie again to you
Too much, too little, too late to cry again to you
ROGER: I'm in the middle of ending something that he knew
JOHNNY: It's over
ROGER: Oh yeah, it's so over
