Peyton wants to play more

With Tony Dungy and Marvin Harrison out of town and an offensive line trying to regain their health, the Colts face more questions than usual this preseason.

That’s why Peyton Manning wants more meaningful playing time with the rest of the team’s starters in tonight’s preseason game.

“I think our coaches realized after some of the older guys kind of
made the point . . . this is a new starting unit,” Manning said.  “There
are some new guys in there.

Manning participated in only six plays in Indy’s preseason opener, even though he was scheduled for 12.  The coaches likely got Manning out of the game because he was sacked on half of those half-dozen plays.  (He was sacked only 14 times all last year.)

“I
think Anthony Gonzalez needs to make a downfield block for Donald
Brown,” Manning said. “Ryan Lilja needs to high-five Pierre Garcon down the field.  Do
you know what I mean?”

Manning usually gets what he wants, so look for him to play far more than one series against the Eagles Thursday night.

I really think Peyton should play the entire game…why not? What? He might get hurt? So what…this is the NFL, either play the games or stop preseason.

Spoken like a true fan of a team with a quarterback that doesn’t matter. I feel your pain. Thankfully those days are long gone in Chicago. Suckaaaa.

Cool. Maybe he can get sacked 8 times instead of six. And I thought the Eagles O-line was in trouble.

  4. Darth Ringo says: Aug 20, 2009 1:00 PM

The O-line needs a lot of work then?
Peyton doesn’t get the credit he deserves for shaping and holding together the Colts. They’d still be a playoffs-only team w/o him. Better get the line functional!!

Pre-season is more of an audition for players who aren’t going to make the team otherwise. Peyton Manning’s spot is secure I would assume, so it’s better if he takes a seat and lets players that are competing for spots play. Sure, he needs reps to get up to game speed for game 1, but this doesn’t have to be more than a half or so.

You know what? If Manning doesnt like it, he should request to be traded, isnt that what the league has come too? Put him on the field, I would love to see a nobody (who will probably be in the UFL make a name for himself by knocking out Manning.

never been forced to miss a regular season game …. cmon Peyton grow some balls & tell the coaching staff that you are going to play full 60mins!

I agree. He should play every down during the preseason.
    Go Steelers!

Could somebody in Vegas put $1000 down on the over in sacks for this game for me? Thanks!

Hey Rex, you may have a good QB…but name me one Great QB without a supporting cast? All Cutler will be doing this year is run around the field being chased because he will have confidence in nobody in that WR core.
Remind those guys that Jay throws very hard! They may want to wear an extra pair of gloves…
Here’s to making Kyle, Chirs or Tom Great this season!

They pulled Peyton against the Vikings after the first series because he was sacked 3 times, and hurried 2 more times. Clearly he was getting beat up, and if they were to lose Peyton to injury, the Colts are screwed.

Colts vs. Eagles tonight – two teams with great QBs and decent WRs, but O-lines like sieves.
Gonna be a lot of scrambling away from defenders in the backfield…

What? Peyton you whiny, bitchass, crybaby, pussy having freaking diva! Who do you think you are calling out your team members and making demands to your coaches, Jay Cutler? I mean any QB that does those things deserves to be called any assortment of names that whatever jackass that happens to be logged in deems appropriate. How dare you make these comments/ requests Peyton! See how annoying you Cutler haters are? Candy asses. I look forward to being at the Preseason game on Aug 30th just to listen to the rest of you women boo Cutler and the Bears as they take the field as it will be music to the ears…
Hey Broncoman, I wont make any comments regarding Orton as he always did what he was asked to do and just didnt have the talent for much more. I will be excited to watch him play as well…
    Go BEARS!

Peyton knows what he needs to prepare. If they are going to put the offense on his shoulders, he needs the time to get it right.
    It’s pretty simple.

The Colt’s line looked awful against the Vikings, I grant you. However, the matador responsible for 2 of those sacks has since been released(Hilliard) and we get a couple of guys back from injury tonight(Diem, Johnson), so hopefully we see a better showing.
Also keep in mind, the Colt’s are the worst preseason team in the HISTORY of the NFL.
As for Peyton playing more, I can see why he wants to. He’s got 2 new recievers and a new running back to work in so, I’m sure he would like to play more.
However, he’s PEYTON FREAKING MANNING. Without him, the Colts don’t win 2 games and threaten 0-16. Geez, sit him after 2 series.

    Cutler’s a pussy.
    Colts are on the downslide.

  19. cowboyup says: Aug 20, 2009 4:25 PM

Look at Peyton, he’s mad b/c he’s not getting enough attention…
Tom Brady, Mike Vick, Brett Favre and alot of others players in the League are always in the news and not him…
    Boo Hoo!!!!!
