Most of the anti-Vick people are Giants, Cowboys and Redskins fans that want to feel “morally superior” to their rivals. They really don’t care, persay, so much as it’s a chance to go further with their language against teams and fans they already don’t like, because popular opinion is behind them. People (including the Eagles fans) do it to the Cowboys all the time.
Look at the first Vick-Eagles thread. It’s 30 percent anti Vick, 70 percent anti-Philadelphia.
Empty doesn’t care about all that, though, because he’s a bonafide, dyed in the wool racist.

You really don’t want to look at history and talk about excuses being made for crimes on humans. I believe that blacks supporting other blacks is a direct response to inhumane treatment of blacks in the court system and historically in the USA. How many times have blacks in the past been lynch for so-called rapings of white women? Do you think black people really gave a damn about OJ Simpson? Hell No. It was years of frustration being released because now you know what blacks have been experiencing for centuries. Should I remind you of the Tuskegee Experiment?
I don’t believe blacks are supporting Vick for what he did. Only the idiots. Many of us believe he is at least showing remorse (we can only judge a man by his actions) and he served his time. We forgive people. The USA claims to be a Christian nation, then live it. Christianity’s main tenet is forgiveness.

The US has 8 times (8!!!!!) the incarceration rate of EVERY other western developed country. 8.
If that didn’t get thru to you I’ll say it again.

Ok, there are 30 to 40 other countries that have less crime, whose crime rates have decreased at the same rate if not faster than the US, who have far, far less people in prison, and who don’t have the ignominy of a “prison industry”.
So get your facts straight and wise up.

If you punish people just for what happens and not what could happen then that would mean that if somebody tries to kill you but the gun misfires or maybe even you overtake him and stop him then he wouldn’t be committing a crime because even though he could’ve killed you he didn’t. The truth of the matter is we do have a corrupt and unfair legal system but the voters are the ones who make the laws. Everybody every election year complains about how all politicians are corrupt and liars but then they only vote for the people they see the most on tv. Most people are too lazy to go out and do research on a worthy candidate that may not have enough money for campaign funds instead just opting to choose from the candidates they can see without getting off of their couch. We as Americans and as voters still have the power to at least change the people who make the system unfair but unfortunately not enough people want the change bad enough. They’re more than comfortable just complaining about it.

I’m with you Darth. I’ve lived in other countries, I’ve seen how they handle crimes there. The US really is in the top 10 most humane incarceration systems. Anyone who thinks otherwise would do well to try a prison term in 90% of the countries in the world. When they haven’t bathed in a month and only eaten once a day (if that) then they might have a perspective.
As to the sentance being too harsh… Think of it like this. Stalworth was an idiot. Plain and simple. The accident also wasn’t 100% his fault. If anything its 50/50. Yes he was high and drunk, but the unfortunate pedestrian was also at fault (and intoxicated too? I can’t remember, but that is besides the point). So, doing something moronic intentionally is worse than doing something moronic and having an accident that wasn’t entirely your fault.
Burress should have known about firearms restrictions, any responsible firearm owner would.
Stallworth didn’t know that this poor guy was going to step out in front of him, its not something you plan on. So, its the difference between intent. I’m sure Burress didn’t intend to shoot himself, but he sure as hell intended to carry a concealed firearm illegally. QED
As for Vick, he SHOULD have gotten a much longer sentence. He was party to organized crime (yes, illegal dog fighting, gambling and racketeering ARE organized crime, especially the way he did it).

Why are people complaining that he got less than than min? When people plead guilty, they usually get a sentence less than the minimum or even get the charge reduced to a lesser offense. It’s not the first or last time it will happen.

i guess i don’t understand why, if the law states “automatic 3.5 years”, he doesn’t get 3.5 years.
i guess the law isn’t “automatic” then is it? The mayor of NYC should make a stink about this, or he should just shut up when making comments about his legislations.

Please. Read ‘The Gulag Archipelago’ someday for a glimpse how other countries handle incarceration! American defendants & prisoners have it pretty good.
I think Plax got the shaft but remember that things like Saddam’s rape rooms and Castro’s life-in-prison sentences for political dissent are, historically, the norm.
Also, isn’t Plax’s wife an attorney?

1 – Stallworth would have likely gotten a longer sentence had he hit Reyes while he was crossing at the intersection with a green light and a walk sign. However, Reyes was jaywalking.

I agree. What DID happen was that Burress carried a loaded, illegal handgun into a bar and discharged it. Where’s the charge of discharging a firearm within the city limits? He got off easy.

I guess the writing was on the wall when after he met with the grand jury and tried to pull a jury annulment. Really, can you blame him for taking the plea? The minimum time was 3.5 years but it would have probably been longer. 2 years starts to look really good when you’re faced with a general public that’s so beaten down they take out their punitive fantasies on others – I won’t even talk about the DA. It’s been said here several times before that if this wasn’t high profile he’d have walked with a slap on the wrist or less. This isn’t justice. It’s a man realizing that justice is dead in America.

just because the family is happy that they got paid in stalworth’s case doesn’t mean that it’s ok. The reason for a punishment is to deter people from doing it again or to deter other people from doing it. so the family is ok with stalworth getting off easy. well what about my family? what about your family? what happens when the next pro athlete is drinking and driving because he feels untouchable and ends up killing somebody you know? I think that not only did the legal system fail for stalworth and the victimes family but it failed all of us in this case because it raises the chances that somebody will do it again therefore putting more people in danger.

If nothing else all this news of high profile athletes and courts makes you notice how screwed up the system is. I mean gun laws are made to be tough but who’s the victim in Plexiglass’s case? I guess karma is what really put him in jail for two years. His 757 brother mike get’s two years for killing dogs. That’s bad but compared to killing someone while your drunk, smacking your girl around, etc there is no comparison in my mind. Yet two pro athletes were convicted of killing someone and they didn’t do as much time as either plexiglass or vick. Anyway you cut it that’s screwed up.
The best is when you have your boys take out two scumbags for you in a bar fight. Everybody walks and then you get to go be superbowl MVP the following year. Civic improvement and Superbowl championship Nobody DOES IT BETTER THAN SUGAR RAY#52! GO RAVENS!

@ BringItHomeForJerome- You’re an idiot. Giants cut him awhile ago. If anything this means the Giants won’t have to play against him this season while he goes through more legal proceedings. I doubt their players, coach, owners etc. wanted that harsh of a sentence for a guy that helped them win the super bowl, but fact of the matter is that this sentence doesn’t hurt the Giants in the slightest after they let him go. It reassures them they won’t have to face a lethal red zone target. Get your facts straight and maybe some originality when trying to “serve up” the NFC East.
