Yes, exactly! Because NFL players are selected because of the hard work and charity efforts they do, not because they can run a lightning fast 40 yard dash, gun a ball 60 yards downfield or kick it 50+ yards through a narrow post. I mean, if only you or I worked harder in soup kitchens and with habitat for humanity why… the NFL could have picked US to play!
And NFL players who can no longer do that due to age/injury are often kept on by teams, because they have the “right” to play football no matter what.

The recipient of the bullet is not the issue here. It’s where the bullet came from, i.e. the gun.
Unlicensed, concealed weapon in NYC is a crime that calls for mandatory jail time.
Also, on the other hand, whatif the gun was pointed in a different direction and the bullet hit Antonio Pierce, who was likely the closest person to Burress.

If you suck at football you’re not going to make it into the NFL. If you’re really good, you might. The NFL is a business, not a privilege, that’s why teams cut players who start sucking.

Mike there is not a single judge in all of New York who would send Plaxico to jail for more than 18 months with his circumstances. The D.A. knows this but wishes to continue with the over zealous prosecution of Burress. Burress is a jerk but even he will not get more than 18 months.
What Brafman should do is have Burress plead guilty today and go before a judge and beg for mercy under the given circumstances. Burress could then be sentenced to one year in jail, start doing his time within weeks and be ready to play most of next season. Goodell will get a fight from the players union on any further suspension. My prediction is that Burress will play again but not until 2010 if he pleads guilty sooner than later.

Unless he pleads guilty, which the Florida courts have taught us is not a conviction.
