Not at all true. Garcia’s pass to JLH was high and behind him. JLH was barely able to get his fingertips on it.
Also, 2 of Garcia’s 3 completions were dump-offs to RB Michael Bush. He had one 10-yard completion to a WR while terribly overthrowing a wide open WR on an out route that may have been a TD because the guy was so wide open. Then he threw another poor pass to WR Johnnie Lee Higgins that was picked off.
Garcia still has great mobility, and aside from those two terrible throws he looked good. Not nearly as good as JaMarcus. But pretty good. No need to make stuff up to cover for Garcia.

So if Garcia plans to make good on his declaration that he’s not a backup quarterback, he needs to step it up, quickly

Are you kidding me, Florio? If someone is in for one series, and a wide receiver knocked his throw up into the air and it’s picked off is no sign that J Russ is ultimately better. Garcia looked sharp, you forgot to mention the scramble he did and all the risks he took for being a 39 year old. He even tackled the guy that intercepted his pass.

What run defense? The one that’s been AWOL for 5 years? That’s o.k., we addressed it by drafting wide receivers and a safety and ignored anything close to a nose tackle.
I think we’re in for a long season.

The defensive line is terrible at best. Now Morrison is hurt who was the Raiders leading tackler last year. Maybe Cable needs to punch Kelly in the nose and get him fired up. Kelly needs to earn his money he got in the contract. Go Raiders!!!!!

A couple of points:
There is no quarterback controversy, Russell was the starter all along.
Garcia was doing very well until he threw a pass too high and hard for Higgins.
The 49′ers QBs suck.
Our run defense needs to be addressed ASAP.
