Cardinals lose second-round pick Brown for season

If Ken Whisenhunt is hoping to build his version of the Steelers defense out west, one spot sorely needing improvement is outside linebacker.

Arizona’s average group was dealt a blow Monday, when they learned second-round pick Cody Brown will miss the entire 2009 season because of a “devasting, rare injury,”  according to his agent.

The Arizona Republic reveals that Brown will undergo surgery for several dislocated bones in his wrist.  The recovery period is only 4-6 months.

Brown, a UConn grad, wasn’t expected to make a huge impact as a rookie while he converted from defensive end.  But the lost season will slow his development and chance to win a starting job next year.

Chike Okeafor, Clark Haggans, and Bertrand Berry are Arizona’s top three outside linebackers.  Their average age: 33 years old.

Yikes. Not only are they old, Okeafor and Berry have been 4-3 ends all of their careers that I know of. Clark is the only experienced 3-4 LB and he was average at best in Pittsburgh with a cast of great players to help his performance.

To bad for them since the man of glass was their first rounder and likely won’t play this season either (or ever).
