We pointed out earlier today the fact that Giants coach Tom Coughlin thinks the media thinks too much of his team.
Coincidentally, we submitted to SportingNews.com on Sunday night an article identifying five teams whose fans (and/or the media) might think too much of their chances.
To Coughlin’s likely chagrin, the Giants aren’t one of them.
The list, along with a bunch of words justifying each selection, is right here.
Is there any chance you could return to be a lawyer?
Why was I not shocked when Florio had the Eagles on this list?
What a surprise…Fagio hating on the Eagles again.
I guess the Cowboys didn’t make the list because no one expects them to do anything.
Is there really anyone that reads sportingnews independent of this site, or does all of the traffic over there come from here?
Once again Florio continues to prove how much of an idiot he truly is.. congrats
Sorry Eagles fans but he’s right. You lost your DC, Dawkins, your MLB and your excitement is supposed to come from a guy not exactly known for being an Einstein who’s been out of the NFL for two years. Personally as he found Jesus I wonder how much of a killer on the field he can be.
Add to that your father-of-the-year coach along with all the voodoo coming from Vick haters and yeah 2009 is pretty much screwed for you.
Let’s see. The Eag’s lost an OL, have an OL hurt, and are minus Dawkins and Stewart. They also have a hurt Westbrook and ya’ll expect them to do it all ? I can’t say as I disagree with that list except for maybe The Chargers.
holy shit florio almost gave the seahawks a complement they where the only team to get back in to the playoffs after losing in a superbowl this is progress..
I think the argument against the Eagles is fair and accurate. Get over it.
p.s. Not to mention D-coord supreme Jim Johnson is gone. I gotta agree with Florio on this one.
re: Eagles
On defense, the departure of safety Brian Dawkins and the loss of middle linebacker Stewart Bradley is crippling.
How about…
On defense, the departure of safety Brian Dawkins and the loss of middle linebacker Stewart Bradley ***ARE*** crippling.
As a Texans fan, I hate to admit it, but after what I saw from our defense Saturday night, methinks he may be right
OK. Now name five teams whose fans should NOT temper their expectations.
I love having Pat White on the Dolphins!
We may never hear another bad thing about Miami until White is traded for a 7th round pick in a few years to some former Parcells subordinate rebuilding a franchise.
No, its IS crippling, because the verb refers to the word departure. Its not ARE, departure is not plural.
See that picture of Florio on the Sporting News website? Don’t you just want to slap him?
Departure and loss. Two verbs. Plural.
I think you guys should be complaining about the Texans on that list more than anything. Texans have been getting better and better each year.
“A lot of things can go wrong” – Really captain obvious? Lots of things can go wrong with any team in the NFL
Without having read the article…
Vikings fans..temper your expectations…way…the…f–k..down.
The Eagles didn’t need him anyways, he was a locker room cancer.
Too soon?
frankfordyellowjackets…he deserves more than a slap he needs a good beat down and i would gladly do it
Actually, it should be ARE since it refers to the two verbs departure and loss–which makes it plural.
Again, as soon as I saw the list, I thought numbers 1 through 5 would somehow ALL be the Eagles. Atleast once a day, he will find a way to either twist something positive, or quote some unnamed source about something negative involving Philly. He posted articles last year about Dawkins losing a step and becoming a liability, so we trade him and upgrade the position and now its “crippling” that he’s gone. Just another example of Florio doing anything possible to try to create false drama around Eagles. And “all of this voodoo coming from all of these Vick haters”?? You mean the 11 Vick Haters that protested day 1 of his practice, then didn’t show up the next day? Or the morons claiming to be Eagles fans who couldn’t name 5 players on the team who are so outraged about animal cruelty, yet they’ve done nothing to try to prevent it their entire lives except complain about Vick? Or maybe the “droves” of Eagles fans who made it known they were selling their tickets in disgust, then come to find out after going on Craigs List that about a dozen people were selling ONE PRESEASON ticket for the Jags game and advertising them as “Get to see VICK PLAY HIS FIRST GAME BACK!!!!”….
The inclusion of the Vikings will fall on deaf ears in the Mpls area but that’s because their fans are blind and their coach is dumb, as in incredibly stupid.
I am not exactly going out on a limb here but Brent Favre will lead the NFL in INT’s yet again this year and will cost his head coach his job (again). As for the playoffs, the Vikings will not miss a second of action of it watching from the comfort of their homes.

Wow, Steelers fans are pathetic. LOL.
misterj – kill yourself so J Johnson can kick your ass you jerk.
Florio, you forgot the browns. While the entire country thinks the brown will finish with 4-6 wins, browns fans actaully believe they have a chance to overtake the Steelers and Ravens.
Of course, this belief only lasts until halftime of game 1.
Florio you pick these five teams out of a hat? You can easily down the line and justify why any team in the NFL will not live up to expectations.
Florio you pick these five teams out of a hat? You can easily down the line and justify why any team in the NFL will not live up to expectations.
Not true. I think the Chiefs will live up to the expectation of picking in the top 5 of next year’s draft.
I agree on the Vikings, even as a Vikings fan (hell I’m trying to temper my own). But you need to give the Vikes run D a little more credit than being just “solid.” Maybe it’s semantics, but I think the leagues best run D the past two years deserves more recognition.
And the pass D was 18th, which is indeed the “bottom half,” but is somewhat misleading.
Also consider they gave up 7 special teams TDs (not sustainable, even for a bad special teams unit) and the points allowed should be even lower this season.
But again, yeah, we all need to put down the purple kool-aid.
Steeler4life, as a longtime Cowboys fan I’ll say that my expectations have been dampened by the reality of the last few seasons. Talk about a team which had everything it needed on paper, but which completely lacked that magic coherence of the recent Patriots, Colts, and Steelers. I pulled for the Cowboys each week, but found myself respecting other teams a lot more.
I’m skeptical that the Cowboys have it now, but am quietly hoping that a little time out of the glare of expectations, and a lack of any convenient excuses for failure, will help them get their act together, which is still a tougher chore in the NFC East than in any division in football.
once again, i’m curious to know who these vikings fans are that you all are talking to. being a vikings fan and minneapolis resident, i’m yet to speak to someone who thinks the team will win, or even make, the super bowl.
oh, and jimmysmith, if you’d like to make a friendly wager on whether or not favre leads the league in INTs, i’ve got a 401(k) account i’m willing to risk. tough to throw 20+ INTs when your team runs nothing but outs, slants, hitches. we’d pull the plug on favre long before he had the chance to make that many mistakes.

“we’d pull the plug on favre long before he had the chance to make that many mistakes”
Based on what – how Tavaris was pulled early in the season? Tavaris Jackson makes$535,000; Brett Favre makes $12mil, has a consecutive game streak to uphold, and an ego the size of Minnesota.
Brett Favre does not get “pulled”, I don’t care how old he is. Was he “pulled” last year in New York with a torn bicep while the team is going down in flames? You don’t just bench $12mil.
Wow Theo you sure told me. I better go get a job and get my life together. Wait I have a job and am entitled to any opinion I have. But maybe I should just put my posts in uppercase letters.
HERE …IS THIS MORE INTELLIGENT?
I don’t really think the Eagles belong on the list but otherwise it’s pretty spot on.
Ahh, my first post must not have been approved by the blog kings. Must have hurt to many Packer fans feelings huh?
Its alright for them to talk smack, but its not alright for them to receive it right? Looks like Packer fans on this site are treated much like the Packers are in the NFL.. FAVORED!!!
Bdawk slow and can no longer play the pass, bradley was good but not crippling.
Who was the other guy that was a pupil of jim johnson?
Oh the guy who pulled off the biggest upset in superbowl history and now head coach of the rams.
Coincidence? I think not
Do you guys pay attention to anything?
The Chargers had their best player on D, Merriman, out the entire year and were without their other top pass rusher for a few games. LT, Gates and members of the OL (Hardwick, McNeil) had lingering injuries as well. LT was unavailable for the playoffs.
This has nothing to do with coaching. I am no big fan of Norv Turner but we still had the 2nd best O in the league ly and he leaves the D in the hands of Ron Rivera who molded the great Bears D of recent.
Coaching maybe a slight concern but it is not worth a highlighted article on a mid level sports website.
Since when are departure and loss verbs?
pol2324: Start with the Broncos fans.
Realistic ones like me don’t need to temper anything.
McDips**t and his Reign of Error might very well earn the #1 overall pick in April.
For the Seahawks, that is.
