Ernest Wilford’s career quickly fell apart after leaving Jacksonville in 2008, so he’s headed back to the team that knows him best.
Just a day after the Dolphins dumped him, Wilford is back with the Jaguars, where he played from 2004-2008. He will have to play a new position, however.
Wilford will continue his transition to tight end in Jacksonville.
The team reportedly hoped to convert Wilford to tight end earlier in his career, but he wanted to stay at wide receiver to help his free agent stock. The team apparently went along with it, and the gambit worked: Wilford earned $6 million guaranteed from Miami.
Now Wilford is just trying to keep his career alive, so he’ll do whatever is asked.
lol @ the title of the article
GOOD LUCK SIR!!!
Now the tight end situation is REALLY crowded…. Marcedes Lewis, Greg Estandia, Ernest Wilford, Richard Angulo, AND Zach Miller…. Who to cut?
Good luck with that Jacksonville, I hope you didn’t pay him much money. I don’t know what went wrong with the Fins, but he didn’t do jack Florio (I guess I CAN be creative) with us. Could have been management, but I don’t know.
Props on the headline Rosenthal.
I loved him when he used to be in Jacksonville, but this seems like a pretty worthless signing to me.
I thought he was pretty silly last time he was on the Jags.
I haven’t heard the details of the deal, but I would guess they don’t owe him big money if he doesn’t make the final 53.
Wilford is a hard worker and more competition at TE is a good thing. I don’t know if he’ll make the final roster, but he will certainly light a fire under the others.
At least he can catch. Are you listening Marcedes? Zach Miller is going to IR. That’s ashame because I think he has all the physical tools to become an elite TE eventually.
Finally a smart move by the Jags front office. This guy was a great character guy during his previous stint in Jacksonville and I hope he can help revive our almost dead passing game. He is not the fastest guy on the field, But he will go in traffic and make the tough catch and move the chains . Marcedes Lewis cannot catch a buzz in a crack house, So I am so happy to see the Jags get a guy who can catch the ball.
