Future Hall of Fame tackle Walter Jones lasted one day of training camp before back spasms and pain in his surgically repaired knee popped up.
He then sat out roughly three weeks, returned for another few days, and then was forced to undergo another surgery on the knee.
The team hopes Jones can return in 4-6 weeks, but that could be optimistic. NFL Network’s Jason LaCanfora writes Tuesday that Jones’ absence “could end up being a much longer, perhaps season-ending situation.”
Yikes.
Seattle’s offensive line crumbled last year, and that was with Jones in the lineup for most of the season. Now they could be without their starting left tackle and center for the start of the season, at least.
Jones mentioned possibly retiring after this season and it’s easy to wonder if the thought is crossing his mind now.
Tacoma News Tribune columnist Dave Boling writes, “[Jones is] now 35, and it’s not unfair to wonder if his inability to get back
to health could have him thinking about heading back to Alabama and
just putting his feet up until he gets the call from the Hall of Fame.”
The Seahawks were optimistic that a return to health would solve many of their problems from 2008, but injuries to Jones, Chris Spencer, and Marcus Trufant have 2009 off on the wrong foot.
Seahawks are done already
Well your freinds with their fancy persuasions
Can’t admit that it’s part of the scene
But I can’t help but have my suspicions
‘Cause I ain’t quite as dumb as I seem
How long … will Walter Jones be out?
sounds done to me. and pace is next.
Who’s the Seahawks GM? Who heck lets one of the best o-lines in the league decay like this in a matter of five years?

5 years is a lifetime in the NFL.
Calling John Runyan!
Theres no one to blame but their GM. With the 4th pick in the draft they selected Aaron Curry instead of Andre Smith or Euguene Monroe. They could have had a young staple at the left tackle position. They knew that Jones was on his last leg and they tried to press their luck. Stupid move, especially since they have a strong linebacking core with Tatupu and Hill. They were so strong they could afford to trade Julian Peterson. Didnt they learn anything from that dreadful year last year? Good luck Mora. Your o-line will crumble and so will Hasselback. See ya in 2010 Seahawks.
ever since they bungled the Hutch issue, the o-line has been horrible in seattle. i really hope they get that sorted out, because until then we won’t see big rushing numbers out of seattle.
hasselbeck’s chiropractor will also see huge revenues as long as this line remains unaddressed as well.
