At a time when we’re waiting for the Seahawks to address the “speculation” that running back Edgerrin James will be joining the team, there’s an issue with one of the five large men who’ll be asked to block for him.
According to Danny O’Neil of the Seattle Times, center Chris Spencer will miss 4-6 weeks after suffering a slight tear of a quadriceps muscle during Saturday night’s preseason game against the Broncos.
“I don’t want to put a timetable on it,” coach Jim Mora said, “but he won’t be back soon . . . it’s not going to be two weeks. It’s going to be into the season.”
The injury came at the end of the second quarter of the game, which makes us wonder what the hell the starting center was doing in the second preseason game at the end of the second quarter.
Steve Vallos is expected to replace Spencer. There’s a chance that rookie Max Unger will slide over.
Mad Max Unger would be the best fit to play center for the Hawks.
I’ve got no affinity for the Seahawks, but I do feel for them with all of the injuries they’ve had to deal with. I was of the opinion that Mora Jr. didn’t suck badly enough to be fired in Atlanta, and it looks like he’ll be starting his second stint as a head coach at a disadvantage already.

The Coach probably wanted to have the starting center work some with the backup QB(s), just in case the backup QB(s) have to play during the regular season. I think that makes sense because it is not a stretch to guess that a backup QB will have to replace the injury prone Hasselbeck at some point.
Spencer stinks anyways, waste of a 1st round pick
These injuries to the O-Line aren’t fair. It won’t matter whether it’s ‘Shoe lace tackled” Jones or “Gold grill” James running the rock pretty soon. Hope Walter Jones bounces back quickly.
Up next, one of the WR’s, probably Houshmandzadeh. Not hoping for it, just saying.
