Canty "very hopeful" his hamstring will heal by opener

New Giants defensive tackle Chris Canty is desperate to speed along the healing of his hamstring tear, which has kept him on the sideline of practice for nearly the last three weeks.

In an effort to speed up the recovery, Canty underwent a platelet-rich plasma therapy session Monday and is starting to see results.

The process, similar to what Hines Ward did on his knee before the last Super Bowl, sounds like a lot of fun: A “huge” tube of Canty’s blood was “withdrawn, centrifuged and reinjected to aid in the recovery of his torn hamstring.”

Canty is “very hopeful” to be back for Week One, but it sounds like that’s far from guaranteed.  The big ticket free agent item is a former 3-4 defensive end and has missed valuable time learning a new system and new position.

With Canty and defensive tackle Jay Alford hurt, the Giants’ vaunted defensive line depth will be tested immediatley.

Hell…….Even if he misses 10 games………He can still average his 2.5 sacks and 25 tackles a season he has averaged over his 4 year NFL career……They gave this clown what?……..42 million…….Unbelievable……

Yeah, if Canty misses a game or two that his going to put a SERIOUS dent in his 3 sack (yearly average) total…
Big ticket free agent my ass!
    LOL.

LEARN THE GAME. Canty’s versatile and he occupies blockers like a mofo. (20 sacks for D Ware?) My G-men were looking for depth and versatility along their D-line, so that they can have someone who’s both gigantic and relatively fast to line up on passing downs with Tuck, Osi and Kiwanuka, and that’s what they got. If he gets on the field, working for a defense that wasn’t invented by a head coach who looks and reacts like a gigantic gray-haired baby, Giants D will be a LOT better. Success, especially in the trenches, isn’t always measured by stats.

    42 million to be a decoy?……

airc94 has it right. its a shame to see people (mostly cowboy fans) talk on this website. your knowledge of football is f*king horrendous. in a 4-3 scheme and along side the best d line int he game, canty with or without missing games is sure to see career highs in all his numbers.
you are all hating because well, it must suck being a cowboys fan these days…

Actually, Eskin and Jackal are Philly fans. Which makes throwing this back in their face even easier. Yeah, signing Canty sucked. Whereas signing a mediocre QB that hasn’t been on the field for almost three years because he’s been in jail, not even putting him thru a workout before signing him for millions, who is arguably the biggest scumbag in the NFL, is a constant distraction for the team, will cause a media circus in every city the Eagles play in – including their own, and who will, should he play well at all (which I wouldn’t bet one dollar on), will inevitably cause the “star” QB to have one his famous “I’m being disrespected” temper tantrums and cause Donovan to have his contract re-done AGAIN to make up for the “lack of respect”. Yeah, you’re right. That was a MUCH better signing. Stupid Giants! All they did was sign a guy that will shore up a line that was decimated by injuries last year and give NY depth that other teams just dream about. Man, I wish NY was smart enough to sign Vick! Then the NAACP, PETA, and the ASPCA could have pissing matches in front of our stadium and the NY players would have answer a thousand questions about the third string QB every day in front of the media. Damn, is Philly smart! That’s why Philly has lost 25% of it population from it’s peak in the 50s – you have to be the best of the best to live and work there! Of course, we can’t finish without asking that favorite sport trivia question of all time – Name the ONLY team in the NFC East that hasn’t won multiple Super Bowls? Trick question! Philly hasn’t won even ONE!

Stats are not everything retards. Nnamdi Asomugha is regarded by most as the best corner in the game and he has a total of 2 picks the past 2 seasons. The Giants brought in Canty for his (as noted by airc94) versatility and unique physical ability. How many 6’7″ DTs are there in the league?

  10. bigbluewreckingcrew says: Aug 27, 2009 9:16 AM

Yea airc94 hit the nail on the head. In a 3-4 the linemen mostly occupy blockers, which Canty does very well because he’s freaking huge. He will have different responsibilities in the Giants 4-3. His stats in Dallas don’t really matter.
On another note, can we get a story on why all these Giants are banged up with hamstrings? Did the conditioning coach take the year off? What the hell is going on here?

Genius. Ware got so many sacks because Canty was occupying all the blockers? Somebody better start blocking Ware before he hurts somebody.

VoxVeritas says: “Genius. Ware got so many sacks because Canty was occupying all the blockers?”
Actually, Vox, in the Giants system, which is obviously fundamentally different from Dallas, I expect the three main reasons NY grabbed Canty was 1) At 6’7″ they have him clog the middle forcing the opposing QB to the outside where NY DEs can use their speed to get sacks 2) Much needed depth on the most important part of NY’s defense 3) Canty had his best games against NY. Addition by subtraction.
Despite my dislike for all things Dallas, I have not written them off as a real threat. Losing one of the two guys that gave NY fits (obviously Ware isn’t going to leave Dallas), while getting a huge body for the middle and desperately needed depth on the D line, makes more sense to me than getting rid of your #1 WR for a guy that showed your team nothing last year. We’ll all know how it works out for both teams by January.

    Hey east96,
How was what I said trash talking? It was a joke about his weird platelet therapy. Not Canty himself, or the Giants, or NYC, or the fans.
You’re not a troll, I actually like disagreeing with you…
    but seriously, chill out.
Or at least get some better material. “How many SB rings do the Eagles have?” is the oldest, most tired line. And you’re going to need some good jokes to make yourself laugh – after the Eagles take the Giants out of playoff contention AGAIN this year, and Eli gets all pouty.
Maybe McNabb will pick up the phone on the Giants sideline again. Only this time, he’ll say “Guess you shouldn’t of paid Trent Dilfer Manning so much money!”

Jackal – Most of the post was ripping the Vick signing, but I understand why you are fixated on the Super Bowl thing. Has to be a sore spot after all these years. As for McNabb picking up the phone, perhaps he should be asking the Eagles FO why they are paying HIM so much when he consistently fails in the post season. But then, I think most of us figure this is Donny’s last year in Philly if he can’t win it all and Vick shows any signs of life. After all, Vick will never win the big game either and he’s A LOT cheaper than McNabb. And Lurie does LOVE a bargain! Plus Vick doesn’t whine all day about “respect”, which is a refreshing change of pace. Too bad Chicago got Cutler. I would have bet that Philly would have been able to fleece Chicago for a boatload of picks to get McNabb. Maybe you can get Denver to overpay for a guy who would probably have three rings by now if he wasn’t obsessed with making himself look good.
