Julius Jones doesn't have to worry about losing his starting job in Seattle, according to Seahawks coach Jim Mora.
Mora called Edgerrin James a "complementary" back repeatedly in a press conference Wednesday, saying that Edge would not compete with Jones for the starting position.
Perhaps Jones' feathers were ruffled by the acquisition, because Mora also said that Jones would be the team's "workhorse."
We're not sure Jones is really suited for that role, but James is a sensible complement. (Although this team is sorely lacking a quality rookie.) Look for James to play plenty on passing downs, which isn't Jones' strong suit.
With T.J. Duckett now out of the mix, the short-yardage duties are up for grabs. James could be the heir to the "tiptoe burglar" throne in Seattle, and Jones isn't known for his decisiveness or vision.
Seattle's effectiveness near the goal line will be something to watch early in the year, especially with the team's offensive line in all sorts of pain.

decent....a post actually containing something somewhat substantial (considering the other "news stories" that have recently been posted) AND related to the game of football, considering this is PRO-FOOTBALL-TALK.com and everything.
But in regards to the topic of the post...I am very surprised to see James signed on for $2 mil and to be a b/u to Jones. From everything I recently read I thought James wouldn't sign anywhere as a b/u and that he demanded something closer to the $4-5 mil range. I don't see how this isn't anything but positive for the Seaweed.
Julius Jones would have a hard time being top shelf talent anywhere. I hope Edge blows right by him and has a decent season or two before he hangs it up. It is to see Edge on a team and off the street!
James has been called the "tiptoe burglar" by Deion Sanders in recent years ....
... and Deion Sanders has been called a "turd burglar" pretty much all his life.
Just give the ball to Owen Schmitt and be done with it.
Justin Forsett looks good IMHO. I saw him play up close at the SanDog/SeaGulls game. Great on pass plays and makes people miss. An interesting contrast to watchin Sproles...
Jones doesn't run with power, he doesn't catch the ball well, he isn't that elusive, and he fumbles.
So what, specifically, is his appeal again?
I think Julius Jones will have a really good season with the help of a good complementary back.
"Nice run, Julius." "Way to cut, my man." "Oh yeah, that was for six. You go boy!"
All the man needs is some confidence.
Anyone remember Julius Jones' first year in the league? After his shoulder healed (I think he missed the first 6 games), Bill Parcells ran him stupid and Jones was very productive.
That's not happening these days, though.
hell edge would be a great short yardage back.
ya need 2 yards, he can get ya 2 yards.
and that's it.
It's interesting to see how Edgerrin James' career arc has developed:
Starts in Indianapolis, he's a bonafide superstar, but wants to play in Miami. After a few years, he goes the opposite direction to Phoenix, Arizona.
After a Super Bowl season he wins his release and... goes even further west to Seattle.
What next? Anchorage? Honolulu?
Perhaps Jones' feathers were ruffled by the acquisition, because Mora also said that Jones would be the team's "workhorse."
Friggin' workhorse? You have to stay healthy to have that title. Last time I checked Jones was banged up and running slow as usual.
Devin Moore can run circles around Julius Jones and should be playing full time sometime this season.
