Not sure why there is so much Packer talk on a Vikings story.
Oh wait, I know why. It’s because the Vikings just sold out by renting out a 40 year old Packer QB who should have stayed retired in 2008.
At least the Packers stuck to their morals when they decided not to go after ex-Viking Randy Moss. Actually wait, that was extremely STUPID. You should have given up that 4th round pick for Moss.
Vikings fans have to see this Favre thing for what it really is. While I am a Vikings fan, I didn’t want Favre in Minnesota, so I can see his signing for what it really is.
Favre single handedly gave the Giants a berth in Super Bowl XLII. Then he followed up by ending the 2008 season with an illegal forward pass.

Where did you pull Thompson was run out of Seattle from? He is a damn good GM. Not many would have had the balls to tell favre no and move on. What a great decision that has turned out to be too! Is your knowledge lacking? Thompson was never GM in Seattle. He was offered a promotion to that position in Green Bay probably due to him building a Super Bowl team as director of player personnel. His ties with Wolf didn’t hurt either. Who is running the show up there in Minnesota? I couldnt even tell you. Spielman? Mark Wilf?

you all know what it will boil down to, the packers eeking out the lions in the battle for the basement of the NFC north, probably 5 or 6 wins again this year, new defense is gonna hurt when you are going up against two maybe three good QB’s in the north and 2 Pro Bowl RB’s… Best of Luck but i’m pretty sure A.J Hawk and Kampman can’t play all 11 positions on the Defensive side of the ball

Check out any coaches comments on camp and you will get virtually the same quotes.
Every team adds 1st year players every year..it’s called the draft.
Minnesotas recent Fa aquisitions seemed to have worked out quite well.
As for Rodgers, he has looked good for 1 year, hardly a body of work to prejudge whether he’s a perrenial pro bowler.
Preseason is a time of vanilla defenses and not showing you hand on offense. you just can’t put too much stock in it.
Case in point, the Lions were 4-0 last year.
The Packers were 6-10 last year, how you know if they have “improved immensely” from within,
well, I’ll chalk that up to the green and gold glasses you are wearing.
There is a reason TT was run out of Seattle, he wasn’t that good of a GM.
I have a good feeling too, it doesn’t involve the Pack being a powerhouse this year tho.
8-8 seems reasonable, to expect anymore than that, is not being relalistic.

Its not about adding players in the offseason like you would say in Madden franchise video game mode. Its about the core players you drafted 3 and 4 years ago getting stronger, more experienced, studying more, getting more familiar with each other. These players are excited about this defense and they will be tested Friday for sure. But so far its been dominant. Now of course the NFC Champions may set them back in the third and most meaningful preseason game of camp. But this Green Bay offense looks unstoppable thus far and Rodgers is going to be a perennial pro bowler barring injury. they have improved immensely from within. That means NOT adding guys but improving the ones you have. From what the coaches have said they see incredible progress from most everyone from this time last year. Thats how you maintain success in this league. you seem to think adding free agents and first year players is the way to go. I disagree. Thank goodness Thompson does too. Woodson and White. Those are the only two that have worked out in Green Bay. Woodson was a Thompson pickup. Great call. But 9 times out of ten they dont work out. Draft draft draft and develop. 95 percent of Green Bays roster is thompson aqcuisistions now. So this year we will see just how smart of a GM he is. I have a good feeling…

I go back to last year, because it is the most recent. Can you follow that logic?
You added 1 FA and had the draft. 1 pick late to camp, 1 sidelined with a hammie injury, you are changing defenses.
But we are supposed to believe that translates into 6 more wins?
I don’t think that is it really. You jokers think you are going to win 12 every year.
As for the sell outs, I’ll give you credit there.
But stop and think about it. The Pack is the only show in town. Even if you go statewide(and I live here) The Brewers and Bucks are perrenial losers.
Vikes are based out of the TC. Have a franchise in every major sport, and have alot of other entertainment avenues. GB is what 90,000 people? What else is there to do there besides hunt and drink(in wisconsin at the same time) and watch the Packers?
GB is one of the few teams supported, win or lose.
You fans are to be commended for that. Just because you are loyal though, does not make you any more knowledgable than other teams fans( boy, has that been proven here)
But your line about ” we may be idiots, but at least we sell out games” is truly classic.

you know what this all REALLY comes down to:
1. From the sports media’s perspective, anything resembling a half-truth or even complete BS is news when the topic is popular enough. I know, speaking the obvious.
2. From the players’ perspective, something this attention-grabbing and quasi-controversial is bound to generate mixed thoughts and feelings. At this point, it is what it is. I’m sure quite a few lesser teams would love to have this sort of “problem”. This train-wreck business is nonsense. The Vikings are easily one of the top five teams in the NFC and a serious playoff contender.
3. From the fans’ perspective, either you like Favre or you don’t. And there can be a number of reasons for or against. There are some pretty legitimate arguments. But the level of adolescence that some choose to display is really quite classless. Unless, of course, you are an adolescent.

Can’t we just settle this black vs white crap by saying scrambling QBs are rarely successful passers in the NFL? Some learned to improve in that category (Steve Young, Randall Cunningham). Others continued to use their running ability as a crutch and never improved as passers (Vick, possibly Vince Young). White scrambling QBs also fall by the wayside. Remember Eric Crouch? That guy thought he was an NFL QB. Ended up as a 4th string CFL QB behind Damon Allen, Michael Bishop and Spergon Wynn.
But those are some great passers… On any other CFL team Crouch would’ve been a 3rd stringer.

Favre was not the epitome of the team player towards the end. He dressed in his own locker room, didn’t hang out with the other guys and he never helped the younger QBs. He threw the team under the bus last offseason, told the Jets he was retiring but still wanted to be released, etc, etc. In his early days he was not only a great player but also a great role model. Now he’s a caricature of himself and a compulsive liar.
He’s still got the arm strength, though.

Just to clarify, I do NOT think there should be any discrimination based on skin colour for any position. However, do you really think that the success of certain ethnicities at certain positions is coincidence?
Maybe it is the culture of the NFL, but I don’t believe that. The teams want to win no matter what.
I’m just saying thats some NFL teams (Vikings) seem to be searching for a great black NFL QB, when, in my opinion, there has never been a great black NFL QB. I consider all of the guys you mentioned to be good and at times very good NFL QBs but not great.
As I said before, I am not racist. In fact, I think it is because I am not racist that I am able to take an objective look at the position without any biast.
But I could be wrong, and maybe I don’t understand how good the guys you mentioned were. I’m only 30, so I never got to fully appreciate them.

I thought at first we needed Favre to get to the Superbowl (im a vikings fan) but now i think we could make it with sagevaris jacksonfels. If favre does not improve in the next two preseason games for the vikes and sage and tarvaris do better than him, then favre does not desrve the starting job and thats all there is too it.

But riddle me this, if black athlete’s are quicker and better reflexes, is there a stigma then that ability is pure natural and doesn’t call into any thinking?
That is my point about the scrutiny or justification of lowering another position on the field compared to the QB position, such as wide receiver, middle linebacker, safety, or running back.
I just think there is a stigma tied to the quarterback position. Whether or not a guy checks down and picks up the proper reads of the zone blitz package.
Jamie Foxx said it bext in “Any Given Sunday” – ‘another dumb brotha getting stuck at another position for the sake of the team!’
Well CdnMike – remember these names – Doug Williams, Randall Cunnigham, Warren Moon, Vince Evans and definately my fellow SWAC alumnus Steve McNair could play the game and the position and play it well!
I can’t wait for the day a white cat comes back into the running back position, like Csonka and Riggins! Tired of hearing people can’t play this or that simply because of the color of their skin.

Tarvaris has always been well liked by coaches and players. He is a really nice guy and has been with this team for 3 or 4 years. It would actually be pretty sad if no players preferred him over the new white older dudes after all Jackson has put into this team.
But the bottom line is that he was given every opportunity to secure this job for the next 6 years and he failed to do so. He was awful in the playoff game last season and awful in three of the other games. His record is 10-10 but really a lot of those wins were despite him not because of him. He is terrible against the blitz and teams use the blitz to counter AP. So he is bad and a bad fit.
The irony of this rumor is that Jackson wasn’t even going to be the starter anyways. He is currently the third string QB. Plus the guy is extremely injury prone so what is the point of putting him in there anyways. As Chilly says, you have to be able to defend yourself.

For years we took the Favre bashing…still one of the most painful was listening to the morons on KFAN the day after Pharv tossed his INT vs the Giants in title game. They loved it. “oh he’s so bad in playoff games…he’s scare…oh..Favre…hahahaha”. Blah.
Guess what?
Pharv is your plroblem now. Packers have a QB this year…next year…5 years from now pending injuries.

Jackson had 3 years to prove he’s inadequate as a starting QB. Jackson’s inability to perform as a decision maker would keep Vikings out of competition. Favre just gives them more time to find their future QB, while still competing.

Look, I’m all for sensationalism and controversy…it’s built into the “news industry.” That said, why does Florio only post one side of this type of thing (which conversely, “happens” to agree with his opinion). Jay Glazer (aka Florio’s bible) said himself on Dan Patrick the day after Favre was signed that the players were “ecstatic.” Why is this not a headline on this site? I have no dog in this Favre fight, but frankly, it’s really transparent to only make it seem like there’s discontent when legitimate reporters have stated the exact opposite. While you may not agree with what a reporter says either way…why is only one angle being played here?
