Organizer of pro-Vick rally has a bad history with McNabb

Here’s an intriguing nugget that likely erases the possibility that the Eagles had anything to do with organizing the Thursday night demonstration aimed at supporting quarterback Mike Vick.

J. Whyatt Mondesire, president of the Philadelphia chapter of the NAACP and outspoken critic of animal-rights groups that might criticize Vick, previously has thrown heavy criticism at Eagles starting quarterback Donovan McNabb.

In December 2005, Mondesire claimed that McNabb “choked” in Super Bowl XXXIX, and that McNabb isn’t a good leader.

Mondesire took issue with McNabb’s perceived abandonment of his ability to run the ball, writing that “by claiming that ‘everybody expects black
quarterbacks to scramble’ not only amounts to a breach of faith but
also belittles the real struggles of black athletes who’ve had to
overcome real racial stereotypcasting in addition to downright
segregation.”

Mondesire concluded that McNabb is “not that good,” and Mondesire had this pointed message for McNabb:  “In essence Donny, you are mediocre at best,” Mondesire wrote.  “And
trying to disguise that fact behind some concocted reasoning that
African-American quarterbacks who can scramble and who can run the ball
are somehow lesser field generals . . .  is more insulting off the field
than on.”

So Mondesire is now openly supporting Vick.

Yeah, this is all gonna end well.

This might be the single stupidest thing with regard to race that I have ever seen in my entire life. I don’t even know how else to put it. Speechless.

  3. Zaggs says: Aug 26, 2009 4:36 PM

Good to know McNabb is responsible for the downfall of the black athlete. Who knew he had that much influence.

  6. kyattorney says: Aug 26, 2009 4:36 PM

That is a lot of Hate aimed on one guy because he won’t run. Sounds like there are more issues there then he is discussing, especially since you would think the NAACP would support a black athlete that has had tremendous amount of success.

  7. jkidd49 says: Aug 26, 2009 4:37 PM

So roughly 5 minutes after you post an article claiming the Eagles tried to get the NAACP to hold a rally for Vick, you post another article saying that its very unlikely the Eagles had anything to do with supporting the NAACP rally?
Keep up the good work…. hack!

This ass clown is just a cowboy hat wearing high yella trying to get some media time.
Basically a white trash version of jessie.
I can see the headlines now. ” philly fans find new low, man beaten to death in defense of dog killer”

  11. EskinSux says: Aug 26, 2009 4:41 PM

What a freakin nightmare…..Why are they making this a race issue?……Oh, thats what they do….Why wouldn’t this so called leader of Africian Americans be proud of what McNabb has accomplished?…..OK, so he and the team, and the coaches choked in the Super Bowl, granted, but he has been a role model, for other african americans to emulate, he’s not a thug, he’s a family man, never gets into any trouble, simply a man that does his job to the best of his ability. He should be praised in that extent……I don’t get how he insulted anyone. Now this Jackass will hook his wagon to an ex-con, who was an embarrassment to his community…..And blame it on everyone else……….Sad and pathetic…..

  12. endzoneview says: Aug 26, 2009 4:43 PM

Good luck trying to find someone in Philadelphia who hasn’t previously thrown heavy criticism at McNabb.

  15. gnop05 says: Aug 26, 2009 4:48 PM

You know what? I haven’t and won’t even read this article. I’m just posting on here because the headline should be changed to:
“HBO’s True Blood actor and actress get engaged!”

  16. VegasChris says: Aug 26, 2009 4:49 PM

Yeah, I get it now. J Whyatt Mondesire is an anagram for Rush Limbaugh.

  17. penguininbondage says: Aug 26, 2009 4:51 PM

Mondesire is an idiot. he’ll throw the better of the two QB’s who is an outstanding citizen under the bus to praise the less-talented and illegal-prone QB?
sounds to me like he has some screws loose.
How on earth can you claim Vick is a better QB than McNabb? There is not a single statistic or item you could point to, to even back up that claim.

  27. LiveNBreatheFootball says: Aug 26, 2009 5:11 PM

So, let me get this straight: screw up a Super Bowl and use hyperbole to justify your screw up — scum of the earth not deserving of help or understanding.
Fight dogs, kill those dogs who did not fight well in horrific ways, become a convicted felon — oh you deserve a second chance.
Got it. Makes perfect sense to me.

Wow, so after your post on the Eagles possibly having something to do with organizing this rallyand getting bashed in comments for your speculation which was based on nothing but an idea in your head, you than immediately post another article claiming Philly has “nothing to do” with this. So basically you used 2 separate stories to make clear that the initial one was pointless to begin with. Wow. all i can say is WOW

“…especially since you would think the NAACP would support a black athlete that has had tremendous amount of success.”
Yeah, but, if you look at what the NAACP and the “Black Community Leaders” such as Sharpton have done of late you’d know that anyone that skews from their viewpoint are considered either a) racist or b) not true to their “African-American” herritage. So in that respect they are exactly like KKK. “Do it our way or we will try ruin you.” They just use the ACLU and the Mass Media as their medium.
Wonderful race relations going on at the top of the “Black Community.”
“What a freakin nightmare…..Why are they making this a race issue?” Because, Eskin, thats all the NAACP has left. They can’t blame white people for racism at the top any more, considering a black president as at the top. They can’t scream bloody murder about the arrest and STD rates being released, because, again, its being released by a government headed by a black president. So they have to get their attention SOMEHOW. I weep for this country sometimes.

  34. Haywood Jabuzzoff says: Aug 26, 2009 5:24 PM

McNabb choked in the big game…. *sigh*…get over it. Jim Kelly gagged 4 consecutive times, still a Hall of Famer. Take away Vick’s ability to “scramble”, and he’d never make it through an NFL tryout. His accuracy rating is horrible for a starting NFL QB.
As a longtime Cowboys fan, I’ve still got a lot of respect for McNabb. To my knowledge he’s never shot himself in the leg, killed anyone with his car while driving drunk, or cheated on his wife & as a tragic consequence, got himself murdered because of it.
This guy, Montessory… Mondaysir…. whatever, is just another fair-weather fan, all-too common in today’s society. Bet the house he’s sporting that #5 jersey when McNabb leads the Eagles to the playoffs this fall.

  36. drbob1117 says: Aug 26, 2009 5:37 PM

This Mondesire guy has too many idiotic thoughts to be taken seriously.. what he was saying in ’05 was that DMac didn’t act ‘black enough’; whatever that means. DMac has handled himself with class and dignity since becoming a member of the Eagles, he’s the greatest QB in franchise history, he’ll just have to settle for this racist nitwit not liking him. BTW, Vick and McNabb have been friends for some time, so if J. Wyatt is trying to drive a wedge between them , he may have a long wait. Mondesire shouldn’t bother to speak for all African Americans; he’s just a source of embarrassment for them.

  37. IrishBoy36 says: Aug 26, 2009 5:49 PM

I live here in Philly. No even the black people can stand this nut.
He just keeps embarrassing himself and the NAACP. He so badly wants to be the next Al Crapton or Jessee Ass-son.

  39. brewcrewe says: Aug 26, 2009 5:56 PM

As a card carrying member of the NAACP, I say dog fightin aint bout nuttin. Let my man Vick ball. Mcnabb is an uncle Tom, and Vick is a playa. Dont hate. And as for me……I keeps my pockets straight.

  40. SwedishMurderMachine says: Aug 26, 2009 6:00 PM

Just have the race already. That will solve this race problem. Vick can run faster than Mcnabb so he will probably win.

I agree, I also have great respect for McNabb. Mondesire’s words about McNabb & his preference to players like TO & MK show his ideals. Old number 5 should be glad Mondesire isn’t a fan. Mondesire is doing McNabb a favor

  42. WeaponX says: Aug 26, 2009 8:17 PM

Heard that guy Mondesire on the radio today, the host put these words in his mouth: “you think that Mike Vick is blacker than Donovan McNabb”…. reading between the lines it seemd like that. This rally is pointless and dumb. Dumb!

  43. Smush Rodrigez says: Aug 26, 2009 9:52 PM

When a 300 pound lineman doesn’t perform well, I want to see if vick has the guts to grab him by the throat and choke him to death.
“So, is he saying that yo need to run to be a black qb?” No, he’s saying you have to be a heartless coward to get his support and play for the Eagles.

  45. LockDown Speaks says: Aug 27, 2009 3:02 AM

Why is this nut job leader of NAACP anyway?
Using race to determine an athlete’s ability is downright assinine. This shows that pepetuates the stereotype that blacks can’t get along.
For somebody to call DM an “Uncle Tom” get your facts straight. A man that would use race as a basis to degrade a person IS an Uncle Tom.
DM is playing the game of football because he has the ability to do so. Black on black crime those people are Uncle Toms.
MV has paid his debt to society but he has to pay his dues to earn (if ever) respect again.
This is why “black america” is so screwed up many “leaders” use race as a tool to keep their agenda alive and pockets lined. If these leaders would focus on more unity there wouldn’t be no need for these leader and they would be unemployed, by letting the world know that some people don’t meet their standard of being black, some of the followers will vocalize their animosity towards the law abiding and morally sound people that are black and “Uncle Tom” in their eyes.
    What a crock.
