let me first start by saying anyone who thinks Kellen Clemens should start is crazy, he is a 4 year vetern and he looked like a rookie as well with that lame duck interception, as for how Sanchez will do, he will have his good days and his BAD days, he will be a decent quarterback, not good though, he will take the jets to the playoffs sometime in his career, but no super bowl………..as for Pete Carroll, he isn’t sucking up, Sanchez was his quarterback, so he is just wishing him well, is he bitter, yes, but oh well he moved on, USC will still have a good quarterback, Aaron Corp, Matt Barkley and Mitch Mustain could all start on a college team.

I agree that Carroll was protecting his Job in trying to keep a future starter for an NFL Franchise. And yea, he was upset – he was trying to protect the kids best interests in his opinion. If everyone on this forum were to be publicly crucified for their opinions, there wouldn’t be a forum on which to debate.
That being said – jeremy should lose his posting privaleges for even INCINUATING that Sanchez would have been drafted ahead of McCoy (Heisman Runner-up) or Bradford (Heisman trophy winner). And… out of curiousity, why did you leave Tim Tebow out of that sentance- arguably the greatest college player ever with a chance to solidify that title this year with another National Championship. What was your reasoning behind that?
Oh – and he “would have gotten more money if he stayed an extra year” …. He signed a $60,000,000 dollar contract with $28,000,000 guarenteed. Really? More money? Here’s a clue – Tom Brady has a $60,000,000 contract over 6 years – Sanchez’s is over 5.

Pete Carroll was pissed that Sanchez left early. Entirely understandable – QB is the missing piece for this year’s USC team. And we may yet discover that Sanchez isn’t ready. He didn’t exactly have his sea legs against the Ravens.
But now that’s over. Sanchez seems to be a god kid — why wouldn’t Carroll be pleased for him?

Really? You think Pete Carroll is sucking up to Sanchez?
Of course he’s going to be happy and proud Sanchez is starting. He loves the kid.
When Sanchez has a horrible year this year playing as a full time NFL starting QB and gets benched in favor of Kellen Clemmens for a “learning experience” I’ll be interested what you’ll say then?
Sanchez has done nothing to really look like he’s ready to be a stud.
He definitely needed one more year of college coaching. If he gets pounded and loses his confidence this year then coming out early could be a major mistake.
I agree he has the tools necessary to become a stud NFL QB, but only starting one season in college could really hurt him early on.

I really could care less, but isn’t it Pete Carroll’s job to do the best thing for his players? He thought Sanchez wasn’t ready for the NFL after playing (ahem) 16 whole games in college. That seems pretty reasonable.
Now that the draft is a done deal it would be infantile for Carroll to dwell on it. In fact, the best action is for him to openly support Sanchez.

I disagree that Carroll is being dishonest because what he’s saying now doesn’t mesh with the press conference earlier in the year. At that time, Carroll was upset with Sanchez’s decision and it showed. However, that ship has sailed. It makes no sense for Carroll to hold a grudge now. Of course he would want Sanchez to succeed in the NFL. He wants all USC alumni to succeed. It’s really silly to think otherwise.

Any I don’t blame Carroll one bit for that press conference. He was doing what was in the best interest of USC (which is his job) and a side note of Sanchez.
Just because Sanchez is the starter doesn’t mean he won’t have a 1-15 Aikman like season and look horrible. Which would then show Carroll was right for throwing his tantrum.
