Ryan makes it official with Sanchez

Jets coach Rex Ryan has announced what Jay Glazer of FOX reported earlier today.

Mark Sanchez will be the Jets new starting quarterback.

Sanchez won the competition (which we think was rigged) by showing in training camp and the preseason that he’s capable of getting the job done.

Or, at a minimum, he’s more capable than Kellen Clemens, a second-round pick in 2006 who seems to be destined for another several years of clipboard duty, barring a Week One torn Achilles’ tendon, which happened 10 years ago this September to former Jets starter Vinny Testaverde.

Sanchez makes his first unofficial appearance at the team’s new starter on Saturday night, when the Jets hit the “road” to play the Giants.

Since Rex Ryan gets fairly geeked up for these preseason games and given that Kevin Gilbride is an assistant coach with the Giants, we’ve got our fingers crossed for some flying fists.

He better get over his rookie jitters fast. Sure didn’t look very good against the Ravens.

And just last week to Ben Roethlisberger or so he claims.

Didn’t Ryan guarantee he’d be meeting the President within 4 years?

He will find out really quick that there is no Stanford on the schedule.
Oh wait, Stanford kicked his ass. Nevermind!

Meanwhile, Clemens is working furiously behind the scenes to make the nickname “Dirty Sanchez” stick.

    Alittle early isnt it?

Sounds like Rexy is Pi**ed at someone for leaking this info before his press conference.
Sanchez is a media darling… and a great source of information apparently.

What are the odds that Buddy comes out of the stands and clocks Gilbride? It’ll be too hard for Rex to get across the field, but I wouldn’t put anything past that crotchety old bastard Buddy.

He’s got a good arm and seems to make good decisions, but question, Would he be better served to let Sanchez watch Clemens for a couple of games just to get the juices pumpin ? It seems as though all could benefit from that. I’m sure there’s pressure to “win now” since Mangini’s hiatus.

Not that little budy had much of a choice, but I wonder if he will run his dumb ass mouth as much when the rook stinks up the joint.
The Jets are a lousy organization

    Not his fault, though.

I watched MNF. I would have waited. He needs to improve, A LOT. Jets will have a bad season.

Good news for Patriots, Bills and Dolphins fans. Well… maybe not Bills fans. I don’t think even this will help thier cause.

The fix may have been in, but Clemmens didn’t exactly throw a knock out punch. In fact, you can argue after spending three years in the offense, you should have been able to put up a better fight.
    From Newsday:
    Number of Series:
    Clemens: 8
    Sanchez: 6
    Number of Plays:
    Clemens: 33
    Sanchez: 33
    Net Yards:
    Clemens: 150
    Sanchez: 189
    Turnovers:
    Clemens: 2
    Sanchez: 1
    Points:
    Clemens: 13
    Sanchez: 14
Both QB’s numbers are underwhelming so the tie goes to the guy making the big bucks. The Jets WILL suffer on offense early on, no doubt about it, but they are banking that Sanchez has the talent to learn quickly and improve fast.
    Good luck.

The Ravens are one of the most consistent and dominant defenses in the league.
He threw a pick 6 to a D end who had just dropped back into coverage while he was trying to throw a checkdown with Ray Lewis in his face. It’s unfortunate, but it really wasn’t as bad of a mistake as people are making it out to be.
Remember that he also bounced back and took advantage of a moment of confusion in the Ravens’ defense, throwing a strike to Leon Washington in the end zone.
I really do think he’ll be fine.

40 years and counting since the Jets last appeared in a Super Bowl. Even long suffering Cardinal fans think that is pathetic

  21. FumbleNuts says: Aug 26, 2009 5:59 PM

The “Dirty Sanchez” just needs to manage games and don’t turn the ball over and he should do just fine.

  22. jetermkt55 says: Aug 26, 2009 6:08 PM

The kid has the physical gifts, all reports indicate that he works his tail off, and he’ll be facing more Ram’s defenses than Ravens.
Something that wasn’t overly talked about after Mondays game was how much success the Jets had running against the Ravens first team defense. Rex is going to protect Sanchez with this strong running game, and what should be a strong short passing game, as Keller, Leon, Cotchery, and Stuckey are all effective underneath.
Hopefully Clowney can grab the number two spot, because this team just needs a starter who can stretch the field.

Lmfao, I can’t believe how many people talkin trash and Tripping over Sanchez in 2 preseason, which they often swap their 1st and 2nd string of WRs and TEs… He didn’t get the best passing players in the Preseason, and now he will in opening day game 1.
Look at you people… ALL the first timer QBs ALWAYS struggles, and then eventually they move on to become a better Player… The Worse Case scenarios is goes to the Viking, Tampa Bay, Miami ~ Thank GOD we got rid of Noddle Arm Pennington…, Bronco, Brown, KC, Raiders, Lion, and 49Ers…
To me, all you guys rambling about Sanchez, which he is alot better than any of those teams on above of the paragraph… Seems to me you guys (who posted) is bunch of idiocy rednecks…
    I called Owned.

first off Sanchez should start, Clemens who has been around for 4 years should of taken this job easily, but instead he dropped the ball and lost to a rookie, will Sanchez struggle of course, but he is a MUCH better option than Clemens who is NOT even an average quarterback and Sanchez wasnt drafted high because of Matt Cassel, it was the fact he had a big rose bowl game and of course, because Sam Bradford stayed in school.
