Sanchez will start for the Jets

Jay Glazer of FOX reports that Jets coach Rex Ryan has informed his team’s quarterbacks that Mark Sanchez will be the starter this year.

So Sanchez has won the competition with Kellen Clemens.

But, frankly, we don’t think there were actually was a competition.  We think that Sanchez was destined to be the Week One starter the moment the Jets pulled the trigger on a trade up by 12 spots in round one to get Sanchez with the fifth overall pick in the draft.

Instead of merely handing the job to Sanchez, however, the Jets forced him to “earn” it.  If nothing else, it’s a great way to push the kid during training camp, and to keep him from becoming complacent.

In the end, there’s no way Ryan was going to go with anyone other than Sanchez.  Last year, G.M. Mike Tannenbaum decided that the Jets needed to trade for Brett Favre because 2006 second-round pick Kellen Clemens wasn’t the guy.  So if Sanchez can’t beat out the guy that wasn’t the guy in 2008, how much longer would Tannebaum be the guy deciding which guys will be on the team?

So Sanchez and Ben Roethlisberger have something else in common.

I like Rex Ryan, but this move seems just to scripted to be the Rex Ryan that has been candid in recent interviews. I am not the coach of this team, but the Public wants Sanchez. Personally Jets fans, I would sit him for at least 5 games. This is going to be a .500 team at best this season. Why throw him to the Defenses that he will be facing (Pats, Titans, Dolphins) when there is no benefit? After four games you would know for sure if Kellen can actually start or not. You would also give Sanchez a chance to look at the game, study, and get a chance to learn from some of the best teams he will see (@ Houston, Pats, Titans, @Saints, @Dolphins). If Kellen fails, then start Sanchez Week 6, Home to Buffalo.

I could have sworn I heard them say, “And with the fifth overall pick, the Jets choose…new starting quarterback Mark Sanchez!” ;P

Let’s see if I have this straight. We had ex Jet college coach pruning a QB for the boisterous and soon to be fired T-Rex current Jets coach? I like this and can’t wait til the movie comes out. “Revenge of Godzilla”

” soon to be fired T-Rex current Jets coach”
Jeez, he hasn’t even coached one regular season game and he’s already going to get fired? Let me guess, you wntedsomeone else to be hired as head coach….

Nice, you can always count on the Jets to screw something up.
All scouting reports on this guy showed lots of talent, and a collective agreement that starting him early would be a detriment to him.
Rex Ryan, you are truly one stupid man.

You obviously don’t know the history behind the Jets & Dolphin. The JET knuckle dragging, inebriated, moronic fans infiltrate our stadium each year they play down here and lower the average IQ of the stadium by over 80 points. They expel (or mutter) such wonderful insights such as, “hey ya wanna fight mudda?” or equally as inspiring, “get outta da way or I’m gonna bash yer head in!”
Do you understand now? J-E-T-S jerks, jerks, jerks

Sanchez won the starting job for just looking less sucky! Ryan is a shittalking gasbag who is going to get his divisional ASS handed to him. Put a sock in it.

  15. idio says: Aug 26, 2009 11:43 AM

    Wow. Jets are idiots.
There goes the season. Sanchez is going to have 16 repeats of that Baltimore game, and the Jets will be irrelevant again.
Suddenly everything in the world feels right again.

  16. goober says: Aug 26, 2009 11:52 AM

What do they have to lose? Besides football games.

  17. jackallday says: Aug 26, 2009 11:59 AM

Attention mud slingers: I’ve watched Mark Sanchez play football (and basketball-which he played a lot like football!) since he was a Freshman in High School and he WILL surprise a few of you sooner than you think. Make book on that one.

Lmfao, I can’t believe how many people talkin trash and Tripping over Sanchez in 2 preseason, which they often swap their 1st and 2nd string of WRs and TEs… He didn’t get the best passing players in the Preseason, and now he will in opening day game 1.
Look at you people… ALL the first timer QBs ALWAYS struggles, and then eventually they move on to become a better Player… The Worse Case scenarios is goes to the Viking, Tampa Bay, Miami ~ Thank GOD we got rid of Noddle Arm Pennington…, Bronco, Brown, KC, Raiders, Lion, and 49Ers…
To me, all you guys rambling about Sanchez, which he is alot better than any of those teams on above of the paragraph… Seems to me you guys (who posted) is bunch of idiocy rednecks…
    I called Owned.

With Stinkchez under center the Jets will be owned by NE and MIA and split with BUF this year for a 1-5 conference record!
Sorry NYJ fans, no play-offs for you again this year!

  23. Whododrums says: Aug 26, 2009 1:53 PM

Second best decision the Jets have made in the last 5 years, the other drafting a kicker in the 2nd round of the ’05 draft. How could anyone have watched the game against the Ravens and think he even belongs being 3rd string is amazing.
Maybe they can work out a trade for one the the Bucs so-called QBs there apparently try to shed themselves of, they suck real bad buck make the Jets guys look like grade school players.
