Simms has high ankle sprain

In the wake of Kyle Orton’s rough preseason debut, coach Josh McDaniels made it clear that Chris Simms wasn’t a serious threat to be the team’s Week One starter.

Now Simms won’t even get a chance to impress the new boss for the rest of the preseason.

ESPN’s Bill Williamson reports that Simms has a high ankle sprain that will keep him out 2-4 weeks.

Simms’ injury highlights a lack of depth at quarterback for Denver.  Look for them to rely heavily on sixth-round project Tom Brandstater for the rest of the preseason.

Simms has struggled with injuries since rupturing his spleen in 2006, also having elbow problems in Tampa.  He’s taken six regular season snaps in the last three years.

UPDATE: The team signed Ingle Martin to help take some snaps.

    Oh boy oh boy!
Brandstater did not look good in Seattle either. Is he the next Tom Brady? No one knows but at this point the only similarities are their first names.
Really, none of the QBs looked good. Too bad McD likes the shotgun because the Broncos could have a great power running game this year to shore up the lack of talent at QB.
This is going to be a looooooooooooong season. I’m a huge Broncos fan but to be excited about this season is being drunk on Kool-Aid. The best I can hope for is a complete miracle.

Here is another test for the new HC McDaniels.
He wanted Tom Brandstater (Bill please check facts before publishing) so he could ‘groom’ for the future. Hey Josh ‘the future is now’.
Two positives here, one-Kyle Orton is durable and two-there is two weeks of pre-season for reps.
And the wacky year for Broncos continues.

The Broncos should make a run at Josh Johnson.

Josh Johnson is a good call, needs some experience but has a huge upside. the question is, how many old Bucs do the Broncos needs? Simms would be a better option if he can stay healthy since he’s proven he can win games

I hate to hear injuries are continuing to hamper this kid. He seemed headed in the right direction before he ruptured his spleen in that game.

They better hope Orton stays healthy till Simms returns because Ingle Martin couldn’t hit his ass with a bango.

Ingle better eat his Pringles…. It’s going to be a bumpy ride this year!
