Incomplete diagnosis for Roy Williams

A source with knowledge of the situation tells us that X-rays on the collarbone of Cowboys receiver Roy Williams were unexpectedly negative.

Multiple sources tell us that the initial diagnosis was a broken collarbone.  One source tells us that Williams himself told multiple teammates that the collarbone was broken.

For now, Williams has gone home for the evening.  He’ll ice the area, and the team is expected to conduct an MRI on Friday.

We apologize for jumping the gun on this one.  We assumed (ass-you-me) that the information was based on an X-ray, and it’s our fault for not ensuring the proper degree of clarity.

So it’s good news for Williams and the Cowboys.

Unless the MRI shows a break.

Two sources from the Dallas Morning News say that it’s just a sprain. Come on guys, show some class. No need to cheer injuries.

I bet Jay Glazer told you it was broken because he was pissed off you told everyone that he can’t throw a potato 90 feet.

I love how an internet NFL gossip site has the class to “apologize for jumping the gun on this one”.
But a multimedia monster with a monopoly on sports can’t be bothered with fact checking, integrity and due process, unless it regards accusations of their own employees or poster boys.
Kudos, Florio, you girly chinned b@st@rd.
If you can’t beat them, don’t become them.

I’m no doctor so fire away, but I thought X-Ray’s showed bone breakage etc.. and MRI’s showed ligament, tendon, muscle, etc…
Must be a hairline, which needs to be watched, like Brocato’s.

What does it matter anyways? Half of the experts have been saying how he’s not that good of a receiver. Now all of a sudden it gets 3 posts… a couple of updates… i mean … this guy isn’t really that good, right? Why the big fuss?

This just in: Terry Bradshaw is still alive.

  8. LL Live says: Aug 27, 2009 11:33 PM

Roy’s was OK but Bradshaw isn’t going to make it

Isn’t jumping the gun and not ensuring proper degree of clarity sort of all you do on this here Rumor Mill? Hence, the name “Rumor Mill”.

Dont be so hard on yourself…its not like you reported he died.
I didnt spoil your next post, did I?

according to, Roy Williams texted that x-rays negative on shoulder and collarbone.

Time to git some new sources.

Mark me down on this one, Florio. My money is on a torn AC joint.
I hope the Cowboys really do love Miles Austin.

  14. Jackal138 says: Aug 28, 2009 12:07 AM

Florio just has to cover his butt because he called out another journalist for sacrificing integrity to get under the “scoop” before anyone else.
Don’t worry, Florio. Good or bad, nobody cares about Roy Williams.

  15. kjl451 says: Aug 28, 2009 12:40 AM

    Incomplete reporting from PFT.
    jk Florio. We love you.

  16. FBGeek77 says: Aug 28, 2009 1:09 AM

You’re exactly right. X-Rays and CT scans are for bone / joint damage, MRIs are for soft tissue damage. So the odds that the MRI will show a break when an X-Ray didn’t are, um … close to zero, I guess.

  17. Erdie says: Aug 28, 2009 1:55 AM

I hear Terry Bradshaw is dead and Roy Williams has a broken collarbone…

  18. Jackal138 says: Aug 28, 2009 2:18 AM

Well of COURSE the diagnosis is incomplete.
If Roy Williams wasn’t dealing with incompletions, he wouldn’t be Roy Williams.

  19. troll_aikman8 says: Aug 28, 2009 4:09 AM

Surprised that Florio didn’t report that Williams hurt his shoulder running away from Rapistberger, and colliding with the video board.

  20. Bill In DC says: Aug 28, 2009 6:03 AM

    FB Geek,
not necessarily. An MRI can reveal a hairline fracture that an X ray does not. I doubt that is the case here and they are workingg from an overabundance of caution.
Williams may miss the first game, but frankly, Dallas doesn’t need him to beat the Bucs

    You must be new here.

  22. Quagmire says: Aug 28, 2009 8:14 AM

Are you sure he didn’t hit the collar bone on the low hanging video board ?

  23. urbusted says: Aug 28, 2009 8:38 AM

Florio, get on your way and check Williams for a hernia right now! Get to the bottom of this! Remember, have him turn his head to the right and you cough. Maybe it’s you turn around and he, oh I don’t know, just find out what’s going on down there will ya? Thanks from all your fan.

  24. SkinsFanInNebraska says: Aug 28, 2009 9:20 AM

Hey, the heading is “News & Rumors”, right?
Florio at least has the decency to admit when he’s mistaken about something. That’s more than you can say about a lot of media folks.

  25. Jackson says: Aug 28, 2009 9:26 AM

I think you are being too hard on yourself Mike. I’m a Cowboys fan and I’m not upset. I appreciate you trying to give us info as fast as you can. luckily the initial report turned out to false but I don’t think anyone should be upset with you about it.

  26. Steeler4life says: Aug 28, 2009 9:37 AM

Not sure why this is good news for the Cowboys. He sucks. It doesn’t make a difference. J Witten is the only receiver they have.

  27. Kevin from Philly says: Aug 28, 2009 10:01 AM

Did the scoreboard fall on him?

  28. savagenation says: Aug 28, 2009 12:19 PM

No Problem Roy W. Just call a “do-over” on the play u got hurt, and your shoulder will un-break!

  29. VoxVeritas says: Aug 28, 2009 12:58 PM

Now they’re saying it was just a bruise.
