Vick could be cutting it close tonight

When Eagles coach Andy Reid addressed the intersection between Thursday night’s game against the Jaguars and quarterback Mike Vick’s detour to Virginia for the confirmation hearing in his bankruptcy case, Reid expressed confidence that Vick will make it back to Philly with time to spare.

“He’ll probably miss the one Thursday afternoon [meeting],” Reid said.  “But he’ll be here for the game.”

Cue Lee Corso.  (Actually, we were looking for a “not so fast, my friend” clip, but that one was better.  This one is pretty good, too.)

A source with knowledge of Vick’s travel plans tells us that Vick will take a commercial flight back to Philly, and that “it’s gonna be tight.”  (It’s good that Vick is going coach; the guys at The Dan Patrick Show were discussing the irony of taking a private jet . . . to bankruptcy court.)

“If the flight is delayed,” the source said, “who knows if he makes it?”

For now, the weather looks to be fine today in Virginia and in Philly, so the plane won’t be delayed by wind, rain, sleet, and/or snow.  But any type of significant slow-down in the process could keep Vick from getting back in time for kickoff.

So, you know, stay tuned.

  1. Oh, I’m holding on by the edge of my seat! Wait, what was that? This is a preseason game? Yeah, nevermind…

  2. WTF ???
Now we are getting “travel-weather advisories” ??
    Mike … this man-crush,you have with M.Vick,
    has to end soon.
    there is 0% chance,this item is news-worthy.
    …………………………………………………………………………..
let’s just say ..he doesn’t make it back for the game .. It means nothing. He wont be cut.

  3. So what, is someone letting dogs loose on the field? I’m boycotting this game, the Philadelphia Eagles and any assclown having anything to do with Vick. Dungy is now learning what an idiot Vick is. Dungy busted his balls for Vick and now Vick is as he always was and always will be………a loser!

  4. The last thing the eagles want is for him to perform at a high level and turn the fans against their beloved, throw the ball into the ground QB Donovan McChoke

  5. It IS the Philadelphia airport. Honestly, its a 2-3 hour drive… and its gonna take you an hour before and 45 minutes after for a 1-1.5 hour flight…. why not just drive?

  6. Breaking News: Donovan McNabb benched for Michael Vick…
Oh wait… nevermind. Of course he’ll play, it’s a pre-season game. They play anyone on their roster…

  7. The flight gets into PHL at 4:30 and anyone who lives in Philly knows that the airport is no more than 10 minutes away from the Linc. Even with a minor delay, there’s no way he misses this game.

  8. Going to be a rough plane ride if he is in coach. Whether people like him or hate him there is nowhere to go 30,000 feet in the air.

    Kinda doubt he’s flying coach.

  10. So, Florio, is it your opinion that Vick should skip the meeting to make the game? What’s the guy supposed to do? 😛

  11. This is a good thing, not a bad thing. The guy was incarcerated, lost his wealth, and deserves to be reckless on the field..

  12. He should parachute in pregame – ratings bonanza– and you can take that to the bank..
    Go Chiefs.

  13. The Teal Curtain?
The same defense that finished 17th in the NFL last year?
Oh, you mean the Kitty Kat Kurtain.

VA is NOT 2-3 hours away. I live here. And I drive home to Philly ALL the time. It takes 4.5 hours, if you’re speeding and hit minimal traffic.
Regardless, Vick will be back in plenty of time to run all over the Jaguars!
    GO BIRDS!

You are boycotting a preseason game? I have given my preseason tix away every year for 15 years. Way to take a stand! If you want to make a real stand, rip your tickets up and let the seats go empty. Not going to a Thursday night preseason game and calling it takings a stand is hilarious.

Seems like the Acela is the best way to go.

  17. There’s no way Vick should drive ( VICKtory is right BTW, that part of Va is about 4 1/2 hrs away, it would take only 3 hrs to get to Arlington, Va., but Newport News is nowhere near that). But the real reason he shouldn’t drive is Florio. Just imagine, Vick’s driving home, one 0f Florios minions is following him with a radar gun, and by tomorrow, PFT headline is ‘Vick Committing More Crime”.. the body of the story will go something like this.. ‘he was going 69 MPH in a 65 MPH zone; he really hasn’t learned his lesson, Lurie said he has to be Mother Theresa, he isn’t , he’s been in town 13 days and hasn’t solved all of Philly’s dogfighting problems yet, so Lurie shpould release him and Roger Goodell should ban him for life’…C’mon Florio, admit it, that’s what you’d write.

  18. this is actually pretty scary.
there are going to be anti-vick protesters there. and now there are going to be anti-anti-vick protesters there too.
this could get really ugly and scary. and for vick to enter when these guys are already set, yelling and screaming at each other…
it could get really scary… this IS philadelphia, its pretty much no-holds-barred.

  19. So if Vick is flying coach and some lady beside him has a lap dog, is he violating his parole?
WE would love to hear Florio’s legal views on that one. In OUR opinion, it would be more news than this post.

  21. Florio, hats off to you for making a career out of reporting non-news. I only wish I would have thought of it first. Congrats.

  22. I find it amusing that if a Vick story hits, goof balls on here post that Florio is a Vick hater. Scroll down a few posts, guys call him a Vick lover.
I’m starting to guess the average age of PFT posters at about 14.8 years old.
    Anyone over 18.. I’d say 93.5% unemployed.

HAHAHA really? Did you REALLY just reference an irrelevant score from a game played 3 years ago?
I thought this blog scanned for vulgar language and football stupidity?

For a guy who’s boycotting, you certainly haven’t throttled back on the whining.
Good luck in your boycott, now shut up and never comment on the subject again. You want to do this boycott thing right, after all.

The game was less than 2 years ago, not 3 and what is irrelevant about a regular season game? In your stadium? When you couldnt even score a TD?
If this blog did scan for football stupidity I would never have seen your response.
