Watch for flying potatoes in Big D

There’s an open practice on Thursday night at Cowboys Stadium.

The brand-new venue has generated plenty of buzz, especially in the six days since a punt from the foot of A.J. Trapasso caromed off the oversized movie screens hanging from the ceiling.

But footballs might not be the only thing flying tonight under (or at) the video board in Arlington.

Said Jay Glazer of FOX, who’ll attend the practice, “I’m gonna throw a potato at the thing and see if I can hit it.”

Jay is kidding.  We think.

But we sort of hope he isn’t.

  1. Isn’t this thing only 90 feet up? Well Glazer, I sure hope you could throw a potato the equivalent from home plate to first base.

  2. Florio: Do you have an editor? Send this story to one of your college Journalism professors. See what they think of your “success”.

  3. I would love to have the job Jay does. Eat, drink, sleep (very little) football. Great job!! Plus, he gets to throw potato’s!!

I officially declare this the lamest thing PFT has ever posted.
    I agree!

  5. why potatoes?? that’s such a waste. Potatoes are absolutely delicious in every form they come in. French fries, mashed, baked, home fries, tater tots, has browns. DON’T WASTE POTATOES! GIVE THEM TO ME!! Throw a squash instead…

  6. Seriously, can’t you see some deranged and hostile Cowbutt fans throwing everything that isn’t nailed down at that thing if the home team is losing? I would imagine that stadium security will need to do full body searches of everyone coming into the place to keep the fan-flung-missles to a minimum.

  7. One would think Jerruh would want to raise the things just to protect them, if they’re so valuable to him. Kicked footballs and potatos can’t be good for the screens, can they?

  8. @ Steeler
I’m sensing some jealousy that the Rooneys cant afford to build that and htey have won a couple superbowls lately. Hey man, I understand the you are bitter from the history of the larry brown kicking neil odonnels ass but, its time to move on buddy!

  9. What did you idiots complaining about the story expect to read with a link titled, “Watch for flying potatoes in Big D”? How can you be surprised that the story is fluff?
I can’t quite understand getting mad at a simple, light-hearted quick-hit. It’s a blog, folks, get with the program.
No matter how lame you think the writer is, nothing’s even close to as lame as you lot coming here day in and day out, insulting someone anonymously. You wanna insult someone? Send ’em an e-mail. Spare us your weak attempts at wit.

  10. This is gonna be funny! Open practice, you can believe that ppl will be bringing in everything and anything they can think of to throw at the screen now.
This is the best thing Florio has ever posted! He jus gave thousands of fans the idea that if a sportswriter such as Glazier can do it, so can they!
WTG Florio, you have done it again!

    LMAO

  12. Glazer is simultaneously great for the NFL and bad for it. While it’s horribly unprofessional, I hope he does it.

    No. This isn’t Philly.

  14. Wah! wah! wah! redsquare. You’re here to insult us anonymously for us ribbing Florio a little bit. Relax bra! We know its a blog, its kind of a slow work week you know and when Florio lobs up softballs like this, what are we supposed to do? Nod knowing and post a thoughtful reply? No. Lighten up…

  15. @killapup
You can’t be serious. Why would any Steeler fan be jealous of that monstrosity. Our owners built something respectable and classy. One, the Rooneys are able to keep ticket prices affordable for the fans as opposed to gauging them. Two, the Rooneys aren’t showoffs like the Jones. Talk about keeping up with Joneses.
As far as Larry Brown, he sucks and so does O’Donnell. However, we have 6 rings and you have less. Additionally, 2 of our rings come from spanking some Cowbutts.

You and the rest of the loser posters responding with vile to this blurb wasted your own time, you trogolodytes. If you don’t like it, leave. No one will miss your whiney, uneducated, below the bell curve comments.

  17. @killachap
No, the Rooneys don’t need a big new stadium to get fans to attend. They do things like “win playoff games” and “win Superbowls this millenium”. I know Jerruh Jones is done trying that tactic, but it might do his team some good.
Purposely f-ing up his stadium for press? I guess it’s a good way to get back in the news after his oft-overhyped team was virtually ignored this offseason, but it’s not going to add wins in the playoffs.
    @ninjaneer
You’re right, but if I got snookered by Jerruh to sit in these bogus seats, I’d try to throw things at the screen, too. At least you can see the field from the seats in the Linc.

    No it isn’t.

  19. @ Scott22
You would have been funny if you hadn’t made fun of an ACTUAL word. Caromed is the past form of the word carom.
Feel free to slap your hands and go “fuh-fuh-fuh-fuh”

  20. @ Jackal and Steeler
Until last season the Cowboys had as many Championships as the Steelers. I would argue that sooner or later the Cowboys will again win a superbowl and will again be tied. Your arguments are terrible as your field cant even hold up in the rain. Look put your fan bias aside, this is one of the greastest if not the greatest sports arena ever built. Yes I agree that its showy and probably too much but dont tell me you wouldnt go if someone gave you tickets. I, like many other rational Cowboys fans, think that the screen should be raised easily 10 ft if not 20 or more.
Larry Brown didn’t suck until he left Dallas. And Neil O’Donnel didn’t suck as he was leading your team to the superbowl. He only sucked after he lost it. I argue that had he had Big Ben’s defense, the Cowboys may have lost that game. Big Ben isn’t as good as you like to believe.

  21. @ redsquare
I am anonymously telling you to take your commie ass back to Moscow. You cavier and buloga blubber eatin’ ruskie.
Can you see Sarah Palin’s house from your porch?

  22. If you can see Sarah Palin’s house from your porch can you possibly sneak some photos through her bathroom window? That woman is hot as hell regardless of her politics!

  23. @killapup
I am from PGH. I live in Houston now. I was offered a chance to go tour the stadium. I turned it down. I wouldn’t go unless the Steelers were there. I would take free tickets to watch the Raiders though.
Big Ben has 2 rings in 4 years. I might agree with you if he had 1 like trent dilfer. He has 2. He is special. He comes to play in the playoffs unlike a QB who’s last name rhymes with Homo

    Tied again? Not gonna happen.
Steelers will win another or two before the Cowtoys do.
“….Yes I agree that its showy and probably too much but dont tell me you wouldnt go if someone gave you tickets…”
I wouldn’t go just because it’s in Dallas

  26. @killapup
Weren’t you the self-proclaimed moral superior? Wow! You are what i thought you were (Dennis Green). Pervert! LOL

  27. The part Florio left out of that post was that Glazer was actually talking about Jerry Jones, not the TV screens…

  28. If you guys think Palin is a hot piece of ass, you need to restock your porn collections. Maybe 20 years ago, when she was in beauty pageants – not so much now.

  29. @ Everyone
I never claimed to be morally superior. Just football smarts (??) superior!
And there is no way in hell the Steelers win 2 more superbowls before the Cowboys win 1! If they could get a decent WR in there then they would win one now! And maybe a decent coach, a QB with balls, shit maybe you’re right!

  30. @ kevin from philly
Just because philly is full of young whores doesn’t mean the rest of us lose an appreciation for the MILF. come on now mannnnnn

You don’t pay attention to my posts, hayward. I’m as liberal as they get, except about guns.
For me, it’s like sleeping with the enemy. She could tell me all about shooting wolves from helicopters while she gave me a lapdance.
