Though Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb expressed concern regarding the ability of the team’s offense to establish a rhythm with Mike Vick being shuttled on and off the field, coach Andy Reid made his position on the matter clear.
Basically, McNabb and everyone else needs to deal with it.
“If you’re going to use that a little bit, then you have to work it in there,” Reid said after Thursday night’s game against the Jaguars. “That’s what we’re going to do as we go down the road here. I expect the guys to make that part of the rhythm and make it work. That will happen there.”
Reid disputed the notion that McNabb one-handed, under-the-chin “kill it” gesture to offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg pertained to Vick. (ESPN’s highlight package contains images of the moment, but the sock puppets have yet to focus on it.)
“That had nothing to do with Michael,” Reid said. “[The media] can ask [McNabb]. He was fine with it.”
As Tom Curran has explained, it sure doesn’t sound like McNabb was fine with it.
Mixing in a second QB rarely works. And when the second QB can’t read a defense and is not an accurate passer, you may as well direct snap it to a RB.
This Vick thing reeks of desperation on the part of the Eagles. Reid has been coaching there a long time without a championship and without trying anything different with his 20th century offense that everyone knows how to defend. So rather than make some sort of incremental adaptation to the league’s evolution, he decides to go Peter Brady on us.
I hope it’s becoming clear that I don’t like Reid or Vick.
Do you just rehash paragraphs from other postings in order to create a new posting to meet a quota or something?
You brought this point up in a previous post this morning and, yet, here it is as its own post……
Next post: “Vick is positive that the sky is the limit with his abilities in this offense & home fans want him to start.”
Geez guy! How about a little something on how damn boring that Bucs v. Dolphins game was last night?!? As in, Parcells deliberately tells Sparano to not score points so defenses can’t figure out what they can do in the regular season.
Gee wiz Mike, I kinda sorta get the feeing you don’t like my Eagles very much. Its amazing how much stuff you throw against the wall, but none of it sticks. Regarding “we want vick” the people at the game went there to see vick, that was not us regulars, we sold our tix to these mooks.
I wondered how long it would take McNabb to realize he wasn’t going to like this. I’d have given it more than one preseason game, though.
“Some will form an opinion on Vick and what his presence means to the “flow” and the “rhythm” of the offense based on one game, and that is entirely stupid. ”
—found that while reading elsewhere and decided I couldn’t say it any better.
Now, how about some rumors on what the Eagles are going to do now that Herremans has a fractured bone in his foot?!? Now that could be juicy…..
“Make it work”? Is this football or Project Runway?
Is this a schism?
Anything that makes the Eagles suffer is OK with me
Really, this move makes less and less sense as time goes on. I’m guessing the commish and Lurie made a backroom deal to “rehab” Vick for the good of the league and the coaches/players/fans just have to take the cram-down.
Reid = lame duck.

======================================
God, I hope you’re right cause I was definitely NOT impressed with my Fins last night. Hadn’t thought of that angle, but I don’t think that’s the case either.
Wow. I thought the annual “I don’t get respect” speech from McNabb wouldn’t happen until mid season. Looks like he’s getting ready to ask to have his contract redone early this year.
I think McNabb was lucky it’s still preseason and the opposing defenses are not putting a helmet on his throwing arm when he plays WR… it’s what I would have my OLB do every single time.
besides, if Vick is never going to throw the ball McNabb’s way… the Iggles are only playing with 10 offensives players, hardly an advantage.
I think Samuel is on the right track but I don’t think it’s for “the good of the league” but more to sell jersey’s and such.
Remember that before the fall from grace this was the number one NFL jersey.
The idea that Vick is going to strengthen the Eagles is laughable. By mid season this is a team that will be in all out war.
With each other.
I said it last night on Philly.com. McNabb just saw his future in Philly as a starter circle the drain.
As a life long Eagles fan I’m sure that 31 other teams are laughing their asses off. It’s like a monkey f’ing a footballl, if it wasn’t so pathetic it would be funny to me too!
Good thing the Philies are playing good….and believe me, I’d never have thought that would be the case.
The funny thing is that anyone who watched the game knows the situation went as well as it could be expected to go. Besides Vick looking slow, everyone was excited and happy about having him in the game. Florio…You just can’t handle being flat wrong…How come there is no article about how Vick got a standing ovation when he came out on the field? Or how come there is no article about there being no significant protests? This is going to fall in the same line of all the other times that you were wrong and refused to eat crow – Here are two examples: 1) The McNair conspiracy theory…Yeah…good call Florio and 2) The validity of Big Ben’s civil rape case and impact on the Steelers.
The funny thing is that you also put out regularly false information regarding criminal penalties based upon your misunderstanding of the law. The bottom line is stick to what you do best – monitor what the actual football writers say and then relay that information to your readers. You are great at that and I appreciate your ability to be on top of the stories. As for your social/legal commentary, I can do without that.
9-6-1 teams adds a huge distraction = 7-9, 8-8 team.
This is going to be a blast to watch.
“We tried some different things out,” said McNabb, who played three quarters. “Did it throw some things off? Maybe. But this is what the preseason is for, for us to clean some things up.”
Actual quote from McNabb. If you watched his post game, you’d see he is anything but upset.
Give him credit for keeping emotion out of it and knowing that last night was dress rehearsal for the opener. We’re going to be very good!
Two years absence have caused many of us to forget that Vick was just about to get the boot from Atlanta because he couldn’t play with consistency. He’ll be perfect in the same role that Cordell Stewart had for the Steelers, coming in for “gadget plays”. Cower made it work for the Steelers, Reid can make it work for the Eagles.
Sounds like a lot of jealous posters out there, wow this article is not even close to the truth anyway. Florio get your facts straight and stop writing BS. Wait to the real season starts and lets see how this unfolds.
Truth: It went well, Don isn’t upset. But this is NBC, where making stuff up to lead to a desired outcome is their M.O.
@Krow
“”Make it work”? Is this football or Project Runway?”
Uh…why are you watching Project Runway?
The Eagles and all pro football has lost me as a spectator. Any organization that can let someone like Michael Vick back in the fold has some serious issues. Maybe all of you can forget the photos of mutilated and/or dead animals, but I can’t; nor should any football fan with some sense of what’s right and wrong. And don’t bother feeding me the crap that he “paid his dues.” He hasn’t begun to pay for the harm that he caused.
No need to comment. Philly fans will make themselves lool stupid on their own..
“Make it work” means: ” Oh, Vick is better than McNabb? Well, things work better with Vick, and McNabb gets to find a new team next year”
Just a shame Vick couldn’t have gone somewhere where they really need a quarterback right now, without all of the controversy. It’s not something he needs right now.
He’ll be the backup/wildcat guy this season, and they’ll dangle him as trade bait next season. These guys do their research, they know what they are and are not getting. Vick is not the successor to McNabb; he’s an investment in draft picks once the organization deems the time to be right.
Eagles fans need to give it up…it’s not gonna work with these 2. Mcnabb lets his emotions get the best of him on the field and a lot of the time it’s not a good thing.
oneGiantloss: yeah, DNabb let’s his emotions get the best of him……..wishful hoping!
WeMissYouDan: they played “way” too conservative last night. I don’t think that is a sign of things to come. Looked like they were just trying to see what they got and not worried about the game per se. I haven’t looked at your schedule, but they will play hard!
As some others have mentioned, this post and the past several about the Eagles are nothing more than trying to create controversy. Misquoting or just out right lies for the most part.
There aren’t 5 qb’s I’d rather have……..maybe only 2 or 3, depending on the system, that get consideration.
Gotta love them egurls
Mcscab and convick what a winning team with the father of the year coaching what a year it will be at the stink
Maybe we could have the two of them fight to the death to see who starts
Die Egurls Die
This is ridiculous, how about this?
Say McNabb really was saying “don’t event think about bringing him back in”, guess what I say? THANK YOU!!!
He wasn’t being jealous, perhaps he was being the leader so many people accuse him of not being.
The offense looked like crap trying to shuffle Vick in and out, and perhaps McNabb was saying, “Enough. We’ve got to get this thing flowing… THEN he can come in.”
It’s amazing how fickle some Philly fans are because sure a “We want Vick” chant came but where’s the mention of the very next play where Donovan used his legs to get a first down and everybody was hoopin and hollerin and forgot about the “We want Vick” chant.
Just like was said, the 3rd week is supposed to show what you’ll look like on Week 1. Guess what? Mike Vick IS NOT going to be on the field in Week 1. Maybe McNabb wanted to make sure the offense had some rhythm since they really won’t play again until it matters.
If you want to point out some problems with the Eagles how about looking at Joe Mays and the linebacking corp??? Hello?!?!?
A quick note to Eagles fans…and this isn’t just in response to the present Florio post, but all of the Vick-related posts since he’s landed in Philly.
If you read Florio’s posts about other teams, they come off just as negative and, at times, contrived as they have about the Eagles recently (for example, Vikings, Steelers before the Roethlisberger’s accuser started looking like a nutjob, Raiders, Bengals, etc, etc). If any other team had landed Vick, they’d be getting the same scrutiny (attention) for it now as the Eagles, if not more so. Therefore, don’t get the impression that Philly’s under the radar because people just inherently care about the Eagles that much. Sorry, folks – aside from the spectable that Vick’s bringing to the table, they’re just not that big of a deal.
Donavan McBlack and mikevick are the poster kids for the NFL’s promote blacks at all costs program. Both of these individuals possess ‘potential” but lack any real substance or quality. Thin veneer at best. The two yucks are hollow, without merit, and whiny little spoiled children, at best.
just wondering if donny is starting to feel buyers remorse about now, nah.
i’m sure he’s still got that same warm feeling that he had when he humped t.o. to management.

I don’t even know what a “lool” is, let alone how to do it stupidly. Stupid.
VernonK has it exactly right.
McNabb was having trouble getting started in the game. He always comes out of the gate slow. This has nothing to do with him being threatened by Vick.
Of course, the haters gotta hate. I mean, their QBs are Trent Dilfer Manning, Tony “Playoff Win” Romo and Jason Campbell, the man who’s learned a thousand offensive systems and hasn’t been good in one of them.
It must burn them up that even the Eagles backup QB is better than their teams’ starter.
McNabb no need to worry M. Sick will be back in prison in no time flat. He’s a loser, he do himself in, he can’t help it.
Vick is a 29 year old kid who made some stupid and irresponsible decisions at a stupid and irresponsible phase of his life.
He is also, in terms of raw talent, one of the most talented and exciting QBs ever to play the game.
Under the guidance of a crafty and creative offensive strategist, if Vick ever gets his personal act together, he could potentially become one of the most unpredictable and deadliest weapons ever in NFL history.
If that happens, some of us may never forgive him for his past or ever like him, but we WILL enjoy seeing his talents utilized brilliantly to do what NFL teams and players are paid for and supposed to do… WIN!
Last but not least, football is a TEAM SPORT and, by my judgment, since joining the Eagles, Vick has shown me so far that he is a TEAM PLAYER and has the benefit of my doubt.
As far as I am concerned you can take vick, reid, mcnabb, the filidelphia scarecrows and the entire nfl and stick it up the commish, tush. I’ve got no money for the national fruitball league. vick is a murderer of innocence animals and he belongs with there poor dead cadivers.
