We reported earlier tonight that the earlier indications regarding the injury to the lower “extremity” of Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel pointed to a sprained MCL and a sprained ankle.
Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, citing an unnamed source within the Chiefs’ organization, reports that it’s indeed an MCL sprain.
Cole says that Cassel will miss 2-4 weeks, suggesting that it’s a Grade II sprain.
Cole also confirms that Cassel suffered an ankle injury, which isn’t regarded as serious.
Good news. I’m eager to see what he can do with the Chiefs.
go Thigpen..
Bring back Marty….Todd Haley bothers me.
How could you call this “confirmed”?
First off, the Yahoo report is wrong as Cassel injured his left leg not right. Second, don’t assume Thigpen will be the starter. Croyle and Gutierrez have both outplayed him. Thigpen is not a fit for this offense.
now this…cant kc ever have the training camp #1 play in a week 1 game for the whole time! trent, croyle, cassel. fire the strength and conditioning coach! pioli prob did that already though.
All this means is now Thigpen gets to go let BAL beat the crap out of him in week one! Have fun TT!
Let this be a lesson to anyone that leaves New England for another team–You WILL crash and burn!
I’m amazed at how many have drank the Cassel Kool-Aid. He played for one year, and did well. However, that was on the Patriots. Ryan Leaf probably would have done well behind that offensive line, with a head coach as good as the Pats have. I’m in no way a Pats fan, but I’ll admit that. Going from that team to the Chiefs is going to be a rude awakening for Cassel in the regular season. I’m not saying he’ll definitely be a bust, but those Chiefs fans heralding him as the savior shouldn’t hold their breath.
I haven’t been able to figure out the Cassel Buzz either. His stats from last year were OK, but only OK. He had a great “O” line, which was vital because he held the ball so long on pass plays that he would have been killed with a sub-par line. He had Moss, who like him or not is as good as has ever played the game and is perfect for providing that release valve to bail out confused quarterbacks (ask Daunte Cuplpepper if you don’t believe that). He had Welker as one of the best control/short yardage receivers going. He had a system and coaching staff 2nd to none…..and his stats were at best OK.
Now he is going to lead a spread type offense which still won’t give a realistic view of a quarterback statistically speaking. My guess is that when he heals up, faces a real pash rush and blitz package, holds the ball that extra 2 seconds, he gets killed.
It don’t matter the chiefs are the worst team in the NFL.
Go Raiders!
the best thing for Cassell to do is to stay down. an ACL would have been better for him because then he could come back after the Chiefs re-load the OL in the 2010 draft. Let “Brokie ” Croyle and Thigpen take another beat down this year and Pioli and Haley can blame it all on Herm and Carl. Plus we’ll have high draft choices in 2010. That would be Win/Win for the Chiefs cuz they ain’t going anywhere this year
Just want to say, it’s a little weird…last year Tom Brady comes to KC, injures MCL. One year later, his replacement in New England goes to KC and…injures his MCL.
Probably a meaningless observation, but still interesting.
If Scott Pioli injures his MCL, though, it’s time to call in the X-Files folks.
