Jets Sanchez tears it up against Jints

Mark Sanchez’s summer-long love-in continues. This time, the bouquets aren’t being lobbed by fawning Jets head coach Rex Ryan or a New York media contingent desirous of seeing the rookie get the job because it’s a sexier story than covering Kellen Clemens.

This time the love came from Giants defensive end Justin Tuck, according to Rich Cimini of the New York Daily News.

“I was impressed with the rookie, I really [was].  We had some pressure on him all game and he was able to make some plays,” Tuck said after Sanchez completed 13 of 20 passes for 149 yards and a touchdown in the Jets’ 27-25 win over the Giants.

Sanchez’ biggest flash play was a 31-yard touchdown pass to Chansi Stuckey while rolling back and to his right, thanks to heavy pressure. His well-placed, backpedaling fling to Stuckey in the right flat turned into six.  Poor coverage and even worse tackling allowed Stuckey into the end zone, but Sanchez showed impressive arm strength to get the ball out as far as he did.

The Jets put up 20 points on Sanchez-led drives. The fifth overall pick in the 2009 draft played into the third quarter.  He also said after the game that he was “a little more confident” after being named the starter.

“You talk a little different,” Sanchez said.  “You walk a little different.  You act a little different.  I don’t know why that happens. . . .  Once they name you the guy there’s a quiet calm that comes about you.”

Interestingly, Sanchez didn’t mention his head getting any bigger.  That’s because it can’t.

As a Giant fan, I gotta give the kid credit. He looked damn good last night.

Chansi Stuckey. Chansi Stuckey? Why do so many NFL players’ parents hate them?

Congrats to the Jets on winning their Superbowl.

A “quiet calm that comes about you”? Really?
    What a ponce.
This queen is making it awfully hard not to hope he gets his bell rung at least once a game. Because that’s the only quiet calm he should be worried about now, and not this ridiculous pontification on how warm and fuzzy beating out Kellen-freakin-Clemens makes him feel.

To play QB u need a big head or you will end up getting it handed to you.

How about a little attention to detail? You said Sanchez rolled to his right and hit Stuckey in the right flat… I suppose if you’re playing D that is the way it happened but according to television viewing he rolled to his left and hit Stuckey in the left flat. Doesn’t sound like a big mistake but it is. For a right handed QB to roll out to his left (righties usually don’t do that) and then throw the pass Sanchez did is pretty impressive. All QBs can roll to their throwing side and complete a pass to the same side… I was very impressed with the elusivenss, field vision and throw Sanchez displayed on that one play.

I am now cautiously optimistic about the upcoming Jets season. Now if they can only cut down on the penalties and maintain a solid pass rush, a Flacco-esque season from Sanchez should be enough for the Jets to sneak into the playoffs.

Chansi was the man at Clemson, glad to see him getting his shot.

LOL! I’ve been asking myself that for years now. It’s like they draw letters randomly out of a hat or something.

Sanchez is the NFL version of Obama for the media. This kid plays ok and the next thing you know it, the Daily News is calling him a star and the article headline says he tore up the Giants. Really? Cuz I saw alot of miscues from the Giants that even kept the Jets in the game. The dropped bomb, the interception right off Dixon’s cement hands giving the Jets a gift field position and a blown coverage call and even worse tackling on Sanchez’s only TD throw, which by the way was just flung in the receivers direction and looked like something out of Tony Romo’s playbook. Sanchez doesn’t suck and I think will struggle like any rookie when he sees real defensive strategy in the regular season…but to say he tore it up? Why is that media is so biased to certain individuals? Did Sanchez pay you some of that $50 mill Curran?

he looked really good & his footwork i some of the best i ever seen. that TD pass on the rollout showed some serious arm strength that i didnt know he had.
i dont really follow the Jets but i will have to check this kid out anytime there on TV!

brasho…..speaking about attention to detail, were you watching the game in a mirror? take another look, he was rolling to his right (that’s Sanchez’s right and the TV viewers left….tough concept, I know) and threw it with his right hand. not discounting the play but don’t fluff the guy up too much.

Watch it again. He and Stuckey went to the right.

Mark Sanchez is a poor man’s Matt Leinart.

  15. DaGMen07 says: Aug 30, 2009 1:21 PM

    @promin1….AMEN brother.
Sanchez’s numbers look great because of piss poor tackling by many backups, especially C.C. Brown. That td to Stuckey was a joke. He should have been tackled at the 15. Sanchez played ok. I cant stand the f’in media hyping these guys up just to tear them down when they dont play well in the regular season. They practically crowned Sanchez “The Savior” already. Give the kid 3 years before you start crowning him anything.

    Curran’s reporting is right..
none of you morons actually watched the game you just like to read your own one sentence twitterlike comments..
The TD throw was sanchez rolling to his right and hooking up with stucky on his right…earlier in the drive there was a 28 yard hook up with stucky on the left side of the field while sanchez rolled to his left.
I know its easy to just listen to what you want to hear and throw down and three word comment..but read closely pay attention to the games and who knows you may learn something..talkback less read more

earlier in the TD drive Sanchez did roll to the left and hit Stuckey for somewhere around a 30 yd gain but on the TD he def. rolled right but no way was that in the flat unless you think the flats are 20 yds downfield

Dropped one Messiah (Favre) and picked up a new one (Sanchez) ?
Waiting for week 4, or even 8 to make a decision on the kid.
Hopeful he replaces Eli as top QB in NY, Eli has a mug only a mother could love.

And empty13 crawls out from under his rock. I’m guessing your pathological obsession with black men is hiding some realities about yourself that you’re just too afraid to face. Or a black guy took away the only woman that ever gave you the time of day. One or the other.

We are ALL saying that Curran was right. Brasho is the only ONE saying Sanchez went left. Try following your own “advice” about reading.

I hope the media keeps feeding this kid. Big egos lead to overconfidence and complacency. Just ask the Chargers.

    Looked good.

  24. Jackal138 says: Aug 30, 2009 11:30 PM

But really, who could expect even the vaunted Giants defense to stand against the skill of… Mark Sanchez?

  25. texasPHINSfan says: Aug 31, 2009 12:08 PM

i hope the Jets enjoyed that game, that was the best win they’ll get all season
