During the NFL Players Association’s search for the new Executive Director, one of the more controversial figures was Director of Human Resources Mary Moran.
Moran’s father, Jim, is a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. Published reports from earlier in the year suggested that Jim Moran was attempting to scuttle the candidacy of finalist Troy Vincent by suggesting that Vincent had spoken to members of Congress regarding the selection process.
Jim Moran later denied that he was trying to harm Vincent’s chances of getting the job. But subsequent reports indicated that Jim Moran might have been trying to preserve his daughter’s employment, fueling speculation that she didn’t want Vincent to get the job, because Vincent might have cleaned house — especially since he had a falling out last year with former NFLPA Executive Director Gene Upshaw.
Eventually, another member of Congress publicly called out Jim Moran for trying to keep Vincent from getting the job.
In the end, Vincent didn’t get the job. But neither did Trace Armstrong, the man who was believed to be the preferred candidate of the folks who had been running the NFLPA on an interim basis after Upshaw’s death in August 2008.
And while Mary Moran is still listed on the NFLPA web site as the Director of Human Resources, we’ve learned that she recently has filed a lawsuit against the union.
We’re trying to get our hands on the complaint. For now, all we know is that the suit has been filed.
So stay tuned.

i have to agree with hn, but that doesnt mean moran isnt trash too.
we could do a lot worse things than flush all the lawyers.
CBA expiring and they don’t have a new one in place, the last thing they would want is infighting within the union.
2010 is going to be an interesting ride.
is she hot ?
MeDia “Ho” Smith is the Jessie Jackson of the sports world. Now the NFLPA will have to open its books and bank accounts for Mary Moran.

Yeah, D Smith is a joke! I’ve been keeping up with everything that has been happening since the players selected this guy and slowly but surely he is turning the union into a joke. Gene Upshaw would be so disappointed.
I hope the players are watching this guy closely. I’d be willing to bet ,D is collecting a fat under the table pay from his former firm. Sooner or later he’s going to out-source all leagal affairs to his buddies.
One more thing, D. needs to stop making promises to retired player that he can’t keep. I know personally that he has for the third time back out of promises to meet the Detroit retired players. As far as Mary Moran goes, scres her for all the dirt she’s done in plot to keep Troy out.
Mary did a lot more than just try to keep Troy out. She did a lot of crap to people who worked there over the years. If the lawsuit goes through, then trust me, there will be tons of people in line ready to defend the union for getting rid of her. It was the best thing the union has done in awhile. The only reason Mary kept her job for so long was because she manipulated Gene into thinking that no one had her back better than she did. And after Allen left, she was able to convince him. Too bad Gene died before he was able to see the light. At least now he has a front row seat…
It’s unfortunate that Ms. Moran is exerted this much energy to defame the name and character of Troy Vincent. Furthermore, it only highlights her selfishness and will to manipulate. As a top administrative figure in the Union, why would you do anything to take the Union’s work away from benefiting and representing the players to its maximum capacity?
I would not be surprised to know that she was having a long standing sexual affair with Gene Upshaw before his death and that is her investment in all of this.
In anything other high office, this behavior would be less than acceptable. I think NFLPA should be no exception. All ties need to be cut with her, IMMEDIATELY.
