Pats feeling Feeley?

Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reports that the Patriots' decision to part with quarterback Kevin O'Connell could be the first step in a plan that results in veteran A.J. Feeley landing in New England.

Per La Canfora, the Pats are "among the many teams" to express interest in Feeley, who likely will be the odd man out in Philly once Mike Vick is officially reinstated.

But La Canfora also reports that the Eagles aren't expected to move Feeley until Vick is back in the league.  This means that, if the Eagles intend to allow Vick to practice during the duration of his in-season suspension, they'll have to devote four roster spots to the quarterback position.

Feeley, who once was traded by the Eagles to the Dolphins for a second-round draft pick, gave the Pats a run for their money on November 25, 2007, leading the Eagles to within three points of a then-untouchable Pats team that had beaten the Bills 56-10 only a week earlier, and the Redskins 52-7 two weeks before that.

Feeley generated 345 yards of passing against the Pats, and coach Bill Belichick's steel-trap organic computer likely recalls every last detail of the impressive film Feeley generated during that game.

    I'm not seeing this.

If Brady has a problem this year, I think Andrew Walter is the guy.

When a guy can make plays against the defense that knows what you're about to do, you know he is good.

I would have preferred, "Pats getting touchy-Feeley?"

Whatever the drop/add scenario is with O'Connell/Feeley, Pats fans can rest assured that Belichick makes better personnel decisions as a head coach than most...

And as Alpheratz points out, Andrew Walter is next in line if Brady misses any time.

Alternate headline: "Are the Pats Feeley-ing it?"

Your mother was Feeley-ing it, last night, Trabec!

Pats have, what, 20 picks in next year's draft? We only have 18, so let's spread the wealth.....

Wasn't his first pass a pick 6 courtesy of Asante Samuel?

Well I had a comment but the all-powerful NBC server cannot handle something as complex as a "remember me" button. Come on, how is that possible? The hamsters at the old PFT managed to "remember me" why can't NBC remember me for more than one day???

    Yawn.

Florio, where the hell is my "Cutler dominates in return to Denver" or "Kyle Orton left the game because he got a little boo boo on his finger".

I also doubt this will happen, though far be it for me to even try to think what BB is doing. The facts are: O'Connel sucked, so he is out. Behind Brady the Pats still have Walter, who is an experienced QB, and has played with Moss before. He will be a lot better than he was with the Raiders, as he will have an actual O line in front of him. Hoyer has also looked good, and the Pats have an emergency option in Edelman.

With such a deep roster in every position except for inside linebacker, why would you bring in yet another qb so late? He would have next to no time to learn the system, and it would mean keeping 4 qbs on the roster (unless you cut Hoyer and pray he makes it to the practice squad (which may happen anyways).

My guess would be that the Pats plan on keeping 2-3 quarterbacks. That will be Brady and Walter. The only way they deal with Feeley (as it was stated, they won't be able to until Vick is officially in the game), is if they try to cut Hoyer to get him on the practice squad, and he ends up getting picked up by another team instead. That way, if everything works out, the Pats keep more regular players on the roster, have two Qbs on the team, and have Hoyer on the practice squad getting experience in case they need him. It doesn't work, and they get Feeley in at their third QB position. Worse comes to worse, they have 2QBs, lose Hoyer, can't get Feeley, but have Edelman in a worst case scenario.

BTW, this having to log out and log in crap after you have typed your message sucks! FIX IT!

Wouldn't surprise me, AJ Feeley has tore apart the Pats D on a few occassions and Belichick loves to acquire guys he can't seem to beat.

Pats have, what, 20 picks in next year's draft?...

I think the Pats only have seven picks in next year's draft at the present time. On the plus side, four of those picks come in the first two rounds (the Pats currently have 3 2nd round picks in next year's draft). The Pats do not have picks in the 3rd round or 5th round as those were traded as part of the deals that brought them Derrick Burgess and Alex Smith.

I'd prefer the Eagles keep Feeley and dump Kolb. The guy has shown nothing.

  16. jb347 says: August 31, 2009 9:07 AM

The Eagles will deal him for a 2nd, then pick him up for peanuts when he's released next year.

  17. Smush Rodrigez says: August 31, 2009 9:23 AM

Soon as I heard that the Pats were dumping the backup, I thought of Feeley. Bill B. loves to get guys who played well against hom (see: Greg Lewis).

This would be a good move for them. It does not make sense to wait. Eagles will get the most for Feeley now when he still has a little time to make a transition.

    WELL SAID.

Andrew Walter is awful. Anyone but him would be fine. Maybe Drew Bledsoe would consider a return if Brady were to go down.

Feeley also orchestrated one of the best come-from-behind games of recent memory in 2004 with the Dolphins (who went 4-12 that year), when he led a comeback victory against NE in Miami that culminated with a last-second pass to D. Thompson for a TD to send Miami past NE, 29-28. it was a great game.

i think this is just more of Belichick picking and/or going after players that have shown they can beat him.

  21. Opie says: August 31, 2009 12:04 PM

whywerule ------ I may have exaggerated just a bit. Eagles don't have (18) either. Just referencing the point that both teams stock pile picks like no other.

Don't really see the Eagles moving Feeley.

Diomedes------- watch a game or, better yet, go get some books from the library regarding football. Then come back and show us what you've learned.

Kolb hasn't shown "YOU" anything?!? How rude of him.....
