Chiefs announce that Chan has been "relieved" of his duties

The Kansas City Chiefs have announced that offensive coordinator Chan Gailey has been relieved of his duties as the team’s offensive coordinator.

Implicit in the statement from the organization is that Gailey, while he’s out as the offensive coordinator, Gailey might not be unemployed.

That said, the notion of Gailey sticking around in a reduced role seems unworkable, and it might simply be a way to nudge Gailey into quitting, since he’d then be owed no buyout.

What is up with these one-time great organizations such as the Chiefs, Raiders & Broncos that seem to make one stupid move after another nowadays? Firing your OC during preseason? The Broncos trading their Franchise QB? The Raiders – u name it? Are their owners going senile? They are making Mike Brown look good!

“Implicit”. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

jungle boy it means Haley is going to call the plays, they did not want Chan to go to a competitor in the offseason

I never seen this coming, after watching the Chiefs this preseason and watching there O line perform its no wonder why there offense has looked so bad. As a Chiefs fan I didnt expect them to win many games at all, but when your QB is running for his life and taking hit after hit no offense is going to achieve much at all.

He’s also the QB coach, so they should still keep him around. That said, he’s disappeared from the “coaching staff” portion of their website:

Gooboy – surely you don’t think it is a wise move, right before the season.
TLyons – Implicit means that something is implied. Maybe you are thinking of “Illicit”?

This team sure is starting off well.
Maybe the “New England model” is to get a QB with little experience and put all your eggs in that one basket, then fire the OC a week before the season.
This must be the “new NE model”.

Looks like another former cowboy coach bites the dust! Go Giants!

“Implicit” is being used in a perfectly correct and appropriate fashion here. It’s not that hard to check–should’ve been done before questioning it!
This doesn’t seem like an “everything is great” move, but something has to be done to fix that offensive line, or the season’s over before it starts. There’ve been some great-looking signs in the preseason apart from the inconsistency of that line. Fix it, and the Chiefs are division contenders. Don’t, and…snore, Chargers walk to the title with even a mediocre record, again.

Nothing wrong with some new blood, some of these guys have been around forever.
    Kind of like Congress.
