First off it was 13/18, not 13/15.
Secondly, what were Tarvaris Jackson’s numbers the previous week? Oh yeah, 12/15 for 202 and 2TDs.
Thirdly, Favre was coming off a nice year when they sent him packing. IF they thought he could continue to perform at that level it makes sense to get him out of the division.
Fourthly, (is that a word?) when have you ever seen a team do anything to help a team within their division?
Anyway, I’m not saying Favre’s washed up or that he can’t still fire the ball in there. I just get a kick out of all the purple optimism. No other team wanted him and the Vikings pony up $12 million and allow him to skip training camp. On the plus side, the more INTs he throws the better value they get on each one. I’m betting they pay less than half a million for each INT.

Riddle me this, if Favre was “Over The Hill” and “Washed Up” like every one of you say, then why did GB put a clause in the trade with Jets, that he couldn’t sign with ANY other NFC North team, especially the Vikings…….
Because MM and TT knew that Favre would kick their ass, because the Vikes are a better team than they are and they didn’t want to meet Favre 2x a season. Even if he played with a cracked rib, he seemed to play pretty damn well, and was reasonably consistent (13-15, 142 yds. TD). So that’s fine keep saying, he should retire, he’s a joke, what not….. I can’t WAIT til October 5th. Jared Allen will drive Rodger’s face into the ground and Peterson will truck Al Harris (again) and Favre will win another game.

yeah i’ll be here if he tanks. the odds aren’t in my favor. he’s old, he’s on a new team with a new coaching staff, as you accurately pointed out the passer rating has been in the bottom 3rd the last couple of seasons.
i’m not a Favre apologist, but i do see a guy that still loves the game and still wants to compete. if GB didn’t want him then what is so wrong about him wanting to play for someone else? i’ll say it again its not Favre’s fault espn is so far up his ass.
as for the dolphins and jets last year……..what do you do? they surprised everyone with the wildcat not to mention the team underachieved under saban then parcells comes in and lights a fire under everyone’s ass. you wanna tell me that when you saw pennington go to the dolphins you were predicting success? they made some good moves but no one would have put them in the playoffs last year.
i guess if you hate favre that much you can put the jets fall on him in the second half of the season but that would be unfair.

Favre is tough – no question, and that must be deeply respected.
However, much of his actions for some time seem time and time again to be self-serving on multiple levels. Just narcissism taken to an extreme.
(1) vows retirement – then yanks Green Bay around big time in ’08 (after playing that absurd waffling act for years , leaving McCarthy & Thompson no legit option but to commit to classy and talented Aaron Rodgers. Simply put, McCarthy and Thompson went way beyond the call of duty for the then-Legend, and quite frankly – they made the right call going Rodgers.
(2) vows retirement – then gets teased/tampered with by Minny, but ends up signing for big coin in Gotham. Then he collects big coin while playing like trash. Then blames his poor play on after-the-fact excuses. Then craps all over the Jets to, after promising he wouldn’t – and yanks them around. Though the Jets have his contractual rights, they get nothing for him after relinquishing such rights – on Favre’s word of honor that he is really through.
(3) vows retirement – then signs up for a $25M contract, all while saying with a few weeks that his arm is a problem, his legs are a bigger problem and now he’s got a cracked rib so don’t expect too much from the $25M man. Nice how that works. Skip training camp, come in late, sign up for sick coin, make lots of advance excuses no QB has EVER done before to my knowledge and tell the world to not expect too much. We all oughtta try to do that in our next contract negotiations: make lots of excuses, say don’t expect much performance, skip all the training required of the rest of the staff and then demand lots of money.
Sorry, but it’s hard to be down with Favre’s act — pretty lame to say the least.

It isn’t the comebacks, it’s the drama.
Show me the athletes who retired / unretired /retired /unretired repeatedly. Show me any football player who succeeded wire to wire at 40. No one can predict the future, but his past four seasons indicate he will not likely be better than half decent. I don’t blame him for playing. I blame him for drawing so much attention to himself when he’s has not done much since he was 34-35. Much of that is due to injury for certain, but his style and toughness, combined with half a step slower mean more injuries to come.
If I were a betting man I’d say he throws 15-20 ints, has a passer rating in the low 80′s and does not win a playoff game.

Comparing Mario and Jordan’s comebacks at much younger ages is apples and oranges, as well as comparing hockey, basketball, boxing or cycling to football.
The comeback is not the gripe. It is the games and the drama.
He sold a load of crap to the Vikes. Yay Brett. Get rich at the expense of the Vikes! Way to go.
Pennington made the playoffs on a team that was worse than the Jets one year earlier. The only way Favre knows how to play will not sustain itself over 16 games and postseason.
Hopefully he will cop a squat after this year, end the publicity sttunt and stop trying to be bigger than the game.
Even though he played well in 2007, when it mattered, at home, he stunk up the joint. In 2008 he started stinking up the joint half way through.
If he proves me wrong, I’ll be here eating crow. Will you?

Make all the excuses you want about players that called it quits and then came back but the fact remains many others have done it too. Ultimately its the PLAYER’S choice and Favre was pressured to leave GB because McCarthy and Thompson wanted to go with Rodgers.
In regards to your Jets comment, I’m pretty sure Favre was the only reason that team was in the playoff hunt last year. After they beat the Titans everyone was penciling them in for the Superbowl, that wouldn’t have happened if Pennington was still bouncing them into receivers. So while Favre wasn’t stellar the second half of the season he was much better than what they had.
But I’m sure you looked into your crystal ball and knew all of that before they ever played a down last year. Can you tell me whats gonna happen this year?

If you think Favre has a real chance to remain a top QB, you are the tool, and although I liked Favre in the past, I’ve never been a GB fan. It doesn’t take a GB fan to see that 12m for a anyone who is in the bottom third of passer rating is absurd. They signed a name. The real player retired a few years ago.

allright folks, first of all, I think the thing with michael jordan was an involuntary retirement (the first time) due to getting caught gambling. It doesnt affect his legacy as one of, if not the best, to ever play the game of QB, do you really think any cares about his years away from the bulls?
with favre, the thing i find hillarious is that all these packer fans where calling him over the hill for a couple years now, yet are crying like the biggest babies now that he’s playing somewhere else. In regards to favre, if he plays well or if he plays poorly, the desicion to put himself out there is NOT one that he made himself. if he does well, he should be praised for giving what he had to give, but if he fails, the blame falls on management and the front office people that let this happen. same goes with every position on a team. you’ve got to believe that 99% of the players are going to give it their all on every play, its up to the coaches and management to get the right people in the right place at the right time. the vikes gave him a chance to play, and he took it. Get off favre’s back about it, and quit parroting each other in regards to calling him brent or burt, you are not clever, nor entertaining anymore, go run another phrase into the ground you tools.
