Chargers put Brandon Hughes on IR

On Monday, Chargers coach Norv Turner suggested that rookie cornerback Brandon Hughes’ knee injury is “significant,” and that he will miss extensive time.

And Norv is right.  Hughes, a fifth-round draft pick, will miss the entire year.

Hughes has been placed on injured reserve as the Chargers have cut their roster from 80 to 75 players.

Also, rookie wideout Demetrius Byrd was placed on the non-football injury list.  Byrd was projected as a third-round pick; he was involved in a serious car accident before the draft, and the Chargers took him in round seven.

The Chargers also waived linebacker Anthony Felder, an undrafted free agent from Cal.
