Nashville police reassign officer who stopped McNair, Kazemi

The Nashville Metro police have reassigned officer Shawn Taylor, who arrested Sahel “Jenni” Kazemi for DUI two days before she killed former NFL quarterback Steve McNair, and then herself.

The news comes from WSMV-TV, Nashville’s NBC affiliate.  (Cue the tones.)

Taylor came under scrutiny for the tone he used when calling a colleague after stopping the car that Kazemi was driving, and in which McNair was riding.

Spokesperson Don Aaron said the reassignment is “not
punitive,” and that Deputy Chief Steve Anderson made the decision to
transfer Taylor based on “the totality of circumstances.”

Taylor stopped McNair for DUI in 2003.  Nearly two weeks ago, Taylor arrested Titans receiver Chris Davis for DUI.  The team thereafter cut Davis.

Taylor’s new assignment hasn’t been identified.  We have a feeling it involves parking meters.

Are you going to offer us another thrilling conspiracy theory on this one too Florio?

  3. VoxVeritas says: Sep 1, 2009 8:40 PM

Cops should have arrested Haynesworth when they saw him try to end Gurode’s career but they did jack, said they needed a complainant. Any one of those cops could have been a complainant but they refused for whatever reason. I’m not surprised that Tennetucky cops get in trouble for stopping Titans players.

The “tone” he used? Can someone please fill me in here, somehow I must have missed something along the way… exactly what did he say? What “tone” are they referring to? Did he say something inappropriate, or did he say something inappropriately during the call to the other officer?

  5. MkePackFan says: Sep 1, 2009 8:47 PM

Here we go again…Florio making implications that somehow this officer is partially culpable to the McNair homicide again.

Never happened. The whole thing was filmed on a sound stage in Burbank. The officer is casting shadows in different directions and his gun clearly has a “C” stamped on it.

@tacious – You kind of missed the boat. PFT posted about 5000 stories when it first happened.
Just be thankful they have dropped the conspiracy idea they were floating about for so long. It got readers though, no doubt.

    Tightones? Please explain.

I read that the officer actually shot JFK with Steve McNair’s girlfriend.

I sure hope where ever they reassigned him to he can take any more drunk drivers off the streets.

Hey…easy on Florio, guys. This actually has serious NFL implications.
Tennessee just became the most appealing place to play for any Jacksonville Jaguar.

I’m pretty sure the “the totality of circumstances” is that the dude was pulling over every minority driving down Broadway in a nice car.

Other NFL cities should take Nashvilles’ lead: ASSIGN players there own cop!

Homeland Security — watching to make sure buildings don’t run away. Absolutely no contact with people.
Totality of circumstances = this jerk doesn’t know how to interact with other human beings.

It’s obvious he is a Steelers fan and is just trying to cause trouble for the rival Titans.
I don’t think people like that should be allowed to be police officers…..
Steeler fans, I mean. Because most of them are dickheads.

In Nashville, if you drink, and drive, you’re going down. Period. No matter what is your name, your game, or your color. You don’t know anyone big-time enough to get you out of my brand of trouble. I’ll destroy your life, and get you fired, divorced, cut, killed.
Cops rule, thugs and drunks (and near-drunks, and even .11 buzz drivers) drool.
Stay at home or call a cab, if you want to drink to excess. Or even drink enough to want to crack a smile. That cracked smile of yours won’t get you anything but cuffs. There’s no room on the streets for both of us.
Be very afraid of me. Every one of you.

So this poor working class stiff in a thankless job gets reassigned because he is doing his job? Wow, its not the officers fault that Mcnair was a drunk who ran around on his wife. Its ashame what happened to him, he didn’t deserve to hook up with someone who was not stable. Anyhow, the cop does his job and does it right so he should be punished? Yeah thats not corrupt.

  21. SkinsFanInNebraska says: Sep 1, 2009 11:12 PM

This is related to the murder of an NFL player, right? So, does it seem ironic – or slightly eerie – that the officer’s name is “Shawn Taylor”?
    Kinda weird to me.

You should probably STFU and RTFA.
“Metro police continued an internal investigation of a phone call Taylor made to a friend right after the traffic stop. During the call, Taylor commented, “Guess who I’ve got stopped?” and, speaking about McNair, he said, “He’s as drunk as hell.”
Yeah. Poor persecuted officer. Just doing his job the right way and all.

@TFBuckFutter – The Titans are not the Steelers rival. As much as you want us to be, we aren’t get over it, better yet, get ready for a beat down next thursday night!

That is just an evil hit piece on a law enforcement professional.
Nothing incorrect in the transcript but you want to go after a guy for his tone?
You never ever since this weird idea came out explained what was in or witheld from his “tone”.
What was absent or present in his “tone” that you think was offensive?
You lack of explaination makes you look like you want to smear a professional for doing his job.
Do you really go so overboard as to suggest Officer Taylor initiated a foreseeable chain of events that lead to McNairs death??
Officers get transferred a lot so that they gain experience in many areas of law enforcement.
    Routine.
Articles like this make the writer look like are real creep.
