Panthers official says team isn't for sale

As the football-following world tries to figure out what would prompt the two sons of Panthers owner Jerry Richardson to resign their jobs with the organization on the same day, a team official tells Steve Reed of CarolinaGrowl.com that one possible explanation can be disregarded.

The source tells Reed that the Panthers are "absolutely not moving and are not for sale."

Still, the departure from the day-to-day operations of the two male heirs to owner Jerry Richardson raises real questions regarding the extent to which either or both Jon and Mark Richardson will be involved in the business going forward.

The departure of Jon Richardson had been expected.  G.M. Marty Hurney told Reed that the decision of Mark Richardson to resign "took me by surprise."

Jon Richardson, a cancer survivor, reportedly was looking for a "lifestyle change."  No reasons have been identified or suggested for Mark Richardson's decision.

Mark Richardson also resigned from the NFL Competition Committee.

Some have speculated it has to do with Jerry's health or due to the Southpark madam who was arrested a year ago. No one knows for sure, but the rumors are flying in Carolina.

    Forio,
Is this anything like the "lifestyle change" you've recently decided upon, too?

There hasn't been much of a response to the news from fans or local media as of yet. In fact, this news is curiously absent from ESPN. I wonder why ESPN is not reporting this? Could it be that they are in love with the [insert team name here] QB and don't want to piss him off?

No reasons have been identified or suggested for ESPN's decision.

Something has gone really wrong, and for once, it isn't 89. The closer we get to opening day, the worse the team looks. And now some very large pieces are falling on the ownership side as well....I don't know, something ain't right with this picture.

I am telling all right now. Word is that the team WILL be sold to the first viable potential owner that will satisfy the requirements of the NFL bylaws. Of course, unless it happens to be one of 6 racetrack, limited funds family members named Rooney. Then of course, Goodell will make special accomodations.
