Favre fined $10,000 for illegal hit

Brett Favre reverie in the national media has been a running joke among fans for years, but it was hard to find anyone this week who defended the ol’ ballplayer for his illegal crackblock block Monday night against Texans safety Eugene Wilson.  (Although someone, somewhere surely said it was “just football.”)

The NFL has agreed Favre’s hit was dirty, announcing Friday that the league has fined Favre $10,000 for the play

The message is clear: no one is allowed to take a cheap shot, no matter the name.

Wilson had to leave the game, but reportedly did not suffer any serious injury from the play that Texans tackle Eric Winston called “bush league.”

  1. Brett completed 72% of his passes despite being blitzed and getting pressured almost every time he drooped back for a pass. Amazing for only being with the team for 12 days.

  2. Some will say it was ‘cheap’ and others will say it was unintentional. My personal opinion is he was just trying to block the guy and it wasn’t a purposeful thing. But it was illegal under the rules and he was penalized accordingly. The last thing the guy wanted to do was tangle up with someone and get injured…just the spur-of-the-moment thing.

  3. How funny is that ? Only Favre is man enough to get pinched by the NFL for an illegal hit. You won’t see pretty boy Tom or the wussy boy manning brothers getting busted for laying somebody out.
    LMAO
    ATTA BOY BRETT !!!!
Florio is in hog heaven having Brett back, it’s the only thing keeping his blog alive.

  4. Where’s Nelson Munce when you need him?
I don’t think it matters, though–Bratt will just make Chilly pay it.

  5. Quick, Dewey Asswound and Jimmy “Sh!thisPants” Smith, make a comment about how the vikings suck. It will be original I am sure. Where is the FudgePacker news?? Oh, nobody cares about them.

  6. @ Gregg Rosenthal,
    “the ‘ol ballplayer”?
    It’s “the ol’ gunslinger”.
    Signed,
    Brett Favre

  7. Report: Patriots WILL get Tarvaris Jackson, and will try to use him in the Wildcat formation. (Not speculation, you’ll see)

  8. Will they create a new rule and name it after him like they did for Hines Ward?
Nah, probably not, compared to HW, Favre is irrelevant.

  9. I love it. I post something before there are any comments up yet (about how the packer fans will be scouring the Viking news), and sure enough the packer fans are drawn to Viking news like moths to a light. Like I said, there is no news about them b/c nobody cares.

  10. Okay CutlerPussy, lets talk originality. Fudge packers? That’s new and original. How long did you stay up to think that one up? Or did your masseuse Sven have to tell you about it?

  11. Hey I’m not saying it’s cool to mess with people’s careers but if anyone in that locker room didn’t think Brett is in 100%, they know now. SKOL! VIKINGS! SKOL!!!!

  12. Huh – That Bert used to be a pretty classy guy. A few weeks in Mini and he’s delivering cheapshots to peoples’ knees. Sad. Okay, let the flames begin… heheh.

  13. It’s obvious Brett was just havin’ fun out there, just enjoying playing the game…
…and in Hattiesburg, you’re not enjoying the game unless you’re putting dudes on stretchers.

Yeah, compared to a slightly above average wideout better known for cheap shots than catching passes, a 3 time MVP, future HOF quarterback is irrelevant…. Just when I begin to forget how truly ignorant people can be, a Steeler fan spouts off to remind us all. Thank you.

  15. Fan of Four-“Florio is in hog heaven having Brett back, it’s the only thing keeping his blog alive. ”
And you… And your love of that sociopath old quarterback. Man crush?

  16. didn’t take long to teach Favre the Vike’s way. Every offensive player needs two knee braces when playing the Vikings.

  17. Most QB’s wouldn’t throw a block for their guys…but if they do it is always down around the knees. Apparently this is a legal hit on a reverse but not if you are down field………go figure. He wasn’t out to hurt anyone and it wasn’t a cheap shot….just a
foot higher and it was legal….. Wilson….you need to keep your eyes on the play instead of looking elsewhere or you would have seen Brett coming….never underestimate any player.

Brett Favre hasn’t even sniffed a Super Bowl since 1997.. and the only was he’ll ever see another is if he buys a ticket. get over yourself.

  19. Good. An 18 year veteran surely knows better than to pull a BS move like that. Can’t wait ’til somebody dives at his knees.

  20. I lose more respect for Gregg by the day. Did the NFL come out and say it was a cheap shot? Is his fine high enough that the wants to make an example of Favre? No. He’s an old guy, not used to making blocks like that. It was not a cheap shot, but it was illegal. Favre haters- look at some of the past cheap shots (like WWF takedown of Jim McMahon years ago, or all of the Rodney Harrison late hits to the pile) and review Favre’s hit. Only an idiot would call it cheap.
The bias of this site gets everyone. Florio and PFT’s tabloid journalism can fully welcome Greg “I can exaggerate too!” Rosenthal.

  21. Favre played for the Packers for 16 years and if I am not mistaken, never was fined for a cheap shot.
He plays for Biqueens two weeks and he is out $10K. I can’t say for sure why that is but my guess is that Favre has seen tape of Jared Allen going after QB’s knees (not once but twice last year), read about his left tackle McKinnie’s street rep for laying pipe along side one’s head and Brent, wanting to be leader, he decided the best way to fit in on this team was to lay down a cheap shot.
One thing for sure, he doesn’t have to worry about Chilly doing anything about that or anything else he will do for the rest of the year. He could take a dump straight down Chilly’s throat and all Klink will do is swallow. Ya, this is not going to end well.

  22. Good hit Favre! Keep it up! Like he said he was protecting his guy Percy Harvin. If Favre had one hit like that everygame I don’t think any Vikings fans would be upset about it. The rest of you bitches maybe but not us. “That’s my quarterback man” (T.O. sob).

  23. “Brett Favre hasn’t even sniffed a Super Bowl since 1997.. and the only was he’ll ever see another is if he buys a ticket. get over yourself.”
2007? you know, the year before he left and they went 6 – 10. 13 – 3, NFC Champ game, and almost got there despite his D giving up 400 yards and 24 first downs to the Giants in -10 degree weather.
Hines “I’ll only hit you hard when you’re looking away” Wards would have never have gotten there without that D and Roth.

Favre is tougher than Erin “Honeycomb” Rodgers or Pu$$y boy Cutler.
    ———————————-
Aaron Rodgers-First full year as a starter, separates his THROWING shoulder, doesn’t miss a start, and put’s up better numbers than Favre. What happened to the Jets season when Favres’ shoulder bummed out?…. oh yea, he let the dolphins pick off the division.

    Almost?
I thought we were talking about football, not horseshoes.

  26. AR didn’t separate anything. MM and TT so over-hyped the minor injury to try to help build AR’s “legend”. Just like running up his stats, in hte wake of the Favre fiasco they did everything they could to make AR look good even if it cost the team some wins, which it did.
I’m sorry, but a QB with a separated shoulder doesn’t do a QB sneak at the goal line on FIRST down which he did the very next week. Extended both arms all the way out for it too. ON FIRST DOWN!! A coach does not do that to a player who is really injured.

  27. “Almost?”
    Yeah, you know, like “sniffed”
your words, not mine. Though I’m glad you finally realized how dumb your statement was.

  28. 10k? Ouch! That represents .0008 percent of Favre’s base salary, which I believe is 12.5 million.
Wow – that’ll put the fear of God into him, LOL.

  29. Jimmy –
Did you forget to pick up some Midol at the store again? It really sounds like your womanly parts (specifically, your ‘Dewey Axewound’) are hurting…

hey, you’re the one trying to equate choking in a big game to going to the SB…

  31. Favre certainly got the old mans discount at just 10k, for that knee shot.
Wilson handled it with alot more class than I would have, for certain.

Why am I not surprised to see a whiny post from Douchey Asswound? He only wishes one of his teams wussy QBs could hit like that, instead of, you know, hitting like a girl.

  33. You just gotta lover homerism.
Al Harris puts a legal hit on Adrian Peterson, and Vikings fans still whine about it to this day.
Brett Favre puts an illegal hit on a guy, and Vikings fans celebrate it.
Par for the course I guess.
