When Giants defensive tackle Jay Alford found out he tore ligaments in his knee two weeks ago, the team held out hope he could still avoid season-ending surgery.
That hope extinguished Friday, when coach Tom Coughlin announced that Alford will miss the rest of the season. The valuable backup suffered a partially torn ACL and the team apparently gave up hope the injury could heal without surgery.
While losing Alford is a blow to the team’s excellent defensive line depth, fellow defensive tackles Rocky Bernard and Chris Canty have been returning to health after training camp injuries.
UPDATE: Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger reports that surgery to repair Alford’s ACL was performed today.
If anyone didn’t know that Alford was out for the year two weeks when he tore multiple ligaments in his knee they needs to re-evaluate their life.
Oh, those knee ligaments. Duh.
I still remember him sacking Brady on Third and long in SB 42.
Bad memories……….bad memories.
