“Record low” turnout in Jacksonville

The 2009 Official NFL Record and Fact Book states that Jacksonville Municipal Stadium currently has a capacity for Jaguars games of 67,164.

For Thursday night’s preseason finale, the Jaguars distributed only 39,942 tickets, according to Vito Stellino of the Florida Times-Union.

Stellino calls the actual attendance a “record low.” He also points out that the team no longer announces the official attendance number during the game.

So that’s two preseason games blacked out, with eight regular-season games to go.

Somewhere in the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area, Ed Roski is smiling.

Meanwhile, the league has said that the blackout rule won’t be changed. And our Friday topic for SportingNews.com focuses on what this might mean for the future of the NFL on television.

Hopefully, more than 39,942 of you will read it.
