Schwartz coy about quarterback decision

The Detroit Lions became the first 0-15 team in NFL history on December 21, via a 42-7 loss to the Saints.

And the Lions will attempt to end their string of 17 straight losses over two seasons by knocking off the Saints in New Orleans on September 13.

To help his team’s chances in this regard, coach Jim Schwartz is keeping the identity of his starting quarterback a secret.

“I think I’ll just keep that to myself,” Schwartz said after Thursday night’s preseason finale. “I’ll keep whether I know, to myself. It doesn’t do us any good to even announce it or say we’ve made a decision or anything like that. We’ll make the decision when we feel the time is right and we’ll announce it when we feel the time is right.”

In other words, the Lions will announce it as late as possible, in the hopes that the Saints devote time to preparing for rookie Matthew Stafford and veteran Daunte Culpepper.
