Eagles release '08 third-rounder Smith

Bryan Smith, a defensive end out of McNeese State drafted in the third round by the Eagles in 2008 has been released according to a tweet by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Smith, a 6-2, 245-pounder, was beaten out at the position by Jason Babin who had an excellent preseason campaign.

Smith didn’t have ideal size to play end in a 4-3 defense. The Eagles were said to be looking to cut a deal with another team before releasing him and getting zippo in return. But aren’t they all?

If this was the Raiders releasing a 3rd round pick from ’08 there would be a dozen EskinSux-type window lickers bashing Al Davis for his ineptness.

McDermott isn’t Jim Johnson, for better or worse. He doesn’t owe anything to those draft picks, and it looks like Jason Babin is ready to resurrect a career.
