Matt Roth placed on reserve/NFI list

If Dolphins linebacker Matt Roth was a bigger-named player, his mysterious journey during training camp would grown into a major story.

Roth was expected to be a solid starter for the Dolphins this year, but now he won’t hit the field until Week Seven at the earliest.

Edgar Thompson of the Palm Beach Post wrote Saturday morning that Roth was placed on the reserve/non football-injury list, which means he’s ineligible to practice or play with the team for the first six weeks of the season. (UPDATE: An earlier version of this story said Roth was on the reserve/PUP list, but Thompson has since updated the story. Roth is still ineligible to play until Week Seven.)

Jason Taylor is going to have a bigger role on the Miami defense than originally expected because of Roth’s injury and Taylor’s solid performance in training camp.
