Panthers leave roster room after cutting to 51

Today’s 53-man rosters are all subject to tinkering over the next few days, as general managers try to perfect their final few players.

One team we know will be adding some artillery is Carolina. The Panthers dropped down to 51 men on their roster Saturday when they placed third-round pick, defensive tackle Corvey Irvin, on injured reserve, and released a boatload of other players.

Irvin was a disappointment in training camp, especially because Carolina is so desperate for run-stopping help. Look for them to possibly add a defensive tackle and possible a return man.

And now, the boatload: guard Justin Geisinger, safet Kevin Kaesviharn, wide receiver Larry Beavers, running back DeCori Birmingham, defensive lineman Casper Brinkley, offensive lineman Patrick Brown, quarterback Hunter Cantwell, wideout Jason Chery, safety Paul Chara, defensive back D.J. Clark, tight end Andrew Davie, defensive tackle Marlon Favorite, safety Joe Fields, offensive lineman Keith Gray, linebacker Anthony Heygood, defensive tackle George Hypolite, linebacker Mortty Ivy, running back Jamall Lee, linebacker Jeremy Leman, wideout Kevin McMahan, wideout Marcus Monk, offensive lineman Jonathan Palmer and linebacker Kelvin Smith.

There weren’t any major surprises on this list. The entire Panthers draft class is on the active roster, except for Irvin.
