Ravens tab Hauschka as new kicker

The Ravens’ new starting kicker is Steven Hauschka, according to old pal Aaron Wilson of the Carroll County Times.

His competitor for the position, undrafted rookie Graham Gano, was waived Saturday.
We’re not sure how long Hauschka is going to last.  The North Carolina State alum missed a 27-yard chip shot in the preseason and Ravens coach John Harbaugh has repeatedly called former starter Matt Stover a possibility to return.
Don’t draft Hauschka in your fantasy league.

I never paid attention, did Stover retire or is it the Ravens who wanted to move on?

Stover has been “Mr. Automatic” from inside 50 yards since the Ravens have been a team. He scored more points than all other team members combined in the superbowl year but he has lost a good bit of leg strength over the last 2-3 years.
Harbaugh wanted to bring in somebody who can place kick at 50+ yards and put the ball in the endzone on kickoffs. I’m not convinced Hauschka is the man for the job considering his inconsistency with chip shots.
Haushcka shared kicking duties with Stover last season where Hauschka would do kickoffs and field goals of 45+ yards with Stover kicking inside 45 yards and extra points. I think the Ravens and Hauschka would benefit from the same scenario this year but it all comes down to “who do you cut to make room for a second kicker?”.

The Ravens are a terrible red zone team.
If we can’t pound it in with McClain we’re kicking FG’s.
Hauschka will get plenty of chances to score points.
