Earlier Saturday Tom Curran told you that Vonnie Holliday was meeting with the Denver Broncos. The meeting must have gone well because Holliday signed a contract with the team.
Mike Klis of the Denver Post reports that Holliday is expected to play both defensive end and nose tackle in defensive coordinator Mike Nolan’s 3-4 scheme. Holliday had been on Denver’s radar screen for a while, but signing him became a priority when Le Kevin Smith went down with a knee injury shortly after arriving via a trade with the Patriots.
A defensive lineman entering means that one has to go and Tim Crowder drew the short straw. Crowder, a second-round pick in 2007, struggled to succeed in the previous regime’s 4-3 system and didn’t show any more ability after Josh McDaniels shifted gears to the 3-4.
Not leaving town just yet is Jarvis Moss. Moss moved to outside linebacker this offseason and was thought to be a risky bet to make the roster after he briefly left camp in early August. He had a strong game in Thursday’s preseason finale, however, and appears to have convinced the team to give him another chance to make good on his status as a first-round pick in 2007.
