Brohm decides to join Packers practice squad

NFL teams other than the Packers were interested in Green Bay’s second-round pick from 2008, but not interested enough to put a waiver claim in for him.

After mulling over his options and talking with other teams about joining their practice squad, Brohm decided to stick in Green Bay, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

The idea of starting somewhere fresh was probably appealing to Brohm, but he also would have been throwing away all his experience in Mike McCarthy’s system.

Brohm will essentially hold the same job he did last year as Green Bay’s third quarterback behind Aaron Rodgers and Matt Flynn.

He’ll just make a lot less money doing it.

Filling out Green Bay’s practice squad: Cyril Obiozior, Jake Allen, Trevor Ford, Jamon Meredith, Ronald Talley, and Anthony Toribio.

UPDATE: Howard Balzer of The Sports Xchange helpfully points out that Brohm will make more on the Packers practice squad than he would have elsewhere. Brohm also had a partial guarantee in his rookie contract that could have scared teams away.

UPDATE II: We forgot to include running back Kregg Lumpkin’s name above after reporting earlier that he was on the squad.
