Todd Bouman won’t stick around in Jacksonville to help new backup quarterback Luke McCown.
The Jaguars cut Bouman, 37, a day after acquiring McCown from Tampa. McCown is now the third backup quarterback for the Jaguars of the offseason, following in the footsteps of Bouman and Cleo Lemon.
There are a lot of ugly backup quarterback situations around the league, but Jacksonville might have had the most desperate.
Essentially they are saying they will be better off this Sunday with McCown after one week of learning the team’s plays than they would have been with Bouman after two straight offseasons in the system.
If Garrard goes down in week 1, I don’t think Todd Bouman’s presence would be the difference between total catastrophe and…whatever the Jaguars are hoping this season will be.
Bouman is not much of a quarterback, and he’s 37. If he was a good qb coach, I think he’d be a coach by now.
Even though Bouman is listed as one inch taller than David Garrard, he had a higher than tolerated number of passes batted down at the line of scrimage. As long as McCown doesn’t deliver passes to the facemask of a DT, he’s an upgrade…
If Gene was gonna “waste a draft pick” on McCown.. he should have used that pick on T. Jackson from Minnesota… Gene is not bringing people in here that will help the team and that the fans want to see….I think they are trying to do bad on purpose so that the team can move away…Just like in “Major League”
So they pick up a quarterback that Leftwich beat for the starting position….yay.
